Differences Between Different Generations Have you ever had conflicts with your parents? I am from Viet Nam, and I am sure to say that there are many conflicts between my generation and my parents’ generation. My generation is about 12 to 27 years old, and my parents’ generation is about 45 to 55 years old. No one can say that my generation and my parents’ generation do all thing right or wrong because each generation has different ways of thinking about everything. Indeed, there are huge differences about thinking of family relationships, communication, and working between my generation and my parents’ generation in Viet Nam. The first difference is how we think about family relationships between my generation and my parents’ generation. In my generation, young people do not take their family relationship seriously, and they do not care a lot about family relationships. They want to go out with their friends instead of their family. In contrast, my parents’ generation loves to spend time with their family. Furthermore, they want to take care of their family members. In addition, they are very close with all the members in their family, so the relationships between them and their family are very good. In my country, older people want to share their problems and their experiences with family members because they think no one is better than family members. Young people, however, who are my generation, do not have the good relationships with their family. They don’t want to share their problems or troubles with their family because they think their family will not understand them more than their friends. For young people in Viet Nam, friends are better than family members. Therefore, my generation and my parents’ generation have different ways of thinking about family relationships in my country.
