In fact, according to a study at the University of Missouri, they found that many students forgot over two and one-half months of whatever their grade-level equivalency is in mathematics. (Wilkenfield) Plus after the summer vacation, many teachers end up spending from four to six weeks of the next school year trying to review what had happened in the previous years, says David Payne, a former principal. Summer vacation is one of the only major times that parents are able to travel or take vacations, however, year-round schooling which allows small breaks throughout the seasons. Also, travel rates during the summer are usually higher than other times of the year. When students return to school after a summer break, there is often a long time period of adjustment.
However, most people looked badly upon religions outside of their own. One of the most close-minded settlements in America was New England, this was both a good and a bad thing as it brought the settlers closer together, but also pushed outsiders away. The Middle Colonies accepted many more churches, as there was a greater amount of ethnic and religious diversity. This shows the importance of religion by highlighting how it brought people with common religions together to form colonies and gave incentive to people who lived in England to immigrate to America for more religious freedom than they previously had. Colonists were provided with even more reason to practice their religion and continue their work in America for a better, more liberated life.
A Fathers Impact “It is easier for a father to have children than for children to have a real father” (John XXIII). The stories “Powder” and “Reunion” have many similarities and differences. The short story “Powder,” by Tobias Wolff is about a father who got to spend quality time skiing with his son after he fought for the privilege to see him. Though he had a limited amount of time to spend with his son, for they had to be back at his wife’s house for Christmas Eve dinner, he learned to savor every minute he got with his son. “Reunion” by John Cheever is a short story about Charlie who hasn’t seen his father since his parents’ divorce.
I met someone who lived in Wilmington at a camp in Charlotte about two years ago. We spent most of the day talking and getting to know each other, and he was an enjoyable person to talk to. Age and residence acted as a large barrier. We talked some after the camp but our friendship would not work out. However, this summer I found out he was moving to Charlotte to live with his grandparents.

I found this greeting strange because it’s not the way we greet people in Western civilization or most of the world matter. Try that where I’m from the projects in Far Rockaway, Queens and that might just be the last set of testicles you’ll ever touch! I’m not saying its right or wrong, but it’s definitely different. In Easter Civilization they bow or even lay down completely depending on the level of respect they have for the person they’re greeting. French nationals, Greeks and Arabian men shake hand and kiss each other on the cheek.
The author also describes the lack of foreign names in America by stating that “nobody without a mask and a cape has a z in his name” (Dumas 605). This causes the reader to think about how many unique names there really are in America, thus leading them further down the rabbit hole of Dumas’s argument. Dumas describes that Firoozeh means “I’m not going to talk to you because I cannot possibly learn your name and I just don’t want to have to ask you again and again because you’ll think I’m dumb or you might get upset or something” (Dumas 606) in American. After a laugh or two, the reader relates with this mindset. Americans want to be accepting of foreigners, but the fear of offending a person of another race sometimes prevents them from starting an interaction.
Assimilation implies that newcomers should dress the way Americans do. But many national and religious traditions require a certain way of dressing for men and women. These people may look more noticeable and different in the crowd, however nobody should force them to wear clothes that they do not want to. An integral part of every culture is holidays. The immigrants who celebrate American holidays do not want to give up their own ones.
