Martin Guardado 05/10/2012 Political Science Topic: Compare and contrast modern conservatism and modern liberalism. Since The United States of America first became a country and started its Democracy, its political ideologies have changed in some ways. Conservatism and Liberalism are the two centrist ideologies that for the majority dominate the way Americans think and make their political decisions today. Although these are seen as very different ideologies they both share some of the same philosophical roots. Their views and points of the government’s role in a democratic society have changed over the years, but the basic ideas and most of their principles have remained the same. In my opinion I believe that most Americans find themselves in one or the other ranging from a high degree of conservatism or a high degree of liberalism to a low degree, they might even find that they agree and support some ideas that both ideologies have to offer and reject others. Supporters of the Conservatism ideology tend to lead towards the Republican party while the supporters of the liberalism ideology tend to lead towards the Democratic party because that is the party for in most choices supports the ideologies. I am writing this paper to compare some of the points found in each of the two parties and what will make them similar or different. The first point that I am bringing up is Conservatism and Economics, conservatism is in support of the free market. When the United States became a more industrialized nation conservatives started to be more interested in the free market and the limiting of the government and also focus on the individual rights to own property, which tends to come from the classical liberalism ideology (power point, modern conservatism pg 1).
