There is a great deal of debate concerning the birth date of Benjamin Banneker. Some records say his birth date is November 9, 1731 in Baltimore County, Maryland. While others say his birth date it November 15, 1732, in Baltimore County, Maryland. His parents were Robert and Mary Banneky. As a younger child his parents made Banneker work on their family farm.
At the dawn of the American Republic, two great men stood above all others; Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton, both of whom had very different visions for the future of America. Jefferson, the main writer of the Declaration of Independence, diplomat, Secretary of State, and future President wanted the nation to have a weak national government, an agrarian economy, and universal education. Hamilton, aide of Washington and the first Treasury of Secretary, wanted a strong national government, a mixed economy, and a limited education system. During the late 1700s the majority of Americans were farmers. The young economy relied heavily on agriculture, with little true industry or trade present.
The second president I would like to discuss is Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln served as a Captain of the Illinois Militia during the Blackhawk War. He had little military experience but, was leader during the American Civil War. Having military experience allowed him to better outfit the troops and provide more informed leadership skills. Using his experience, he knew that the rebellion needed to be ended quickly and implemented blockades to hurt the enemy, knowing they could not fight without supplies.
He is a cotton mill worker 2) He (the father) had “worked and lived in the shadows.” (Paragraph 2) (What causes shadows? What is meant by “the shadows” in the context of this sentence? )Not being educated. Being poor (What do you think is meant by “working and living in the shadows?”) Him being a cotton mill worker and being poor 3) What kind of father do you imagine based on what you read in paragraph 3? A caring father that wanted his sons to succeed in life.
He served as a role model for countless soldiers during America’s Revolutionary War and helped establish future presidents. He was a believer in a strong presidency and a stable government. George Washington inherited a nation that was fearful of power. He acted very carefully and was very much aware that the young nation was in desperate need of a strong central Government. He appointed Thomas Jefferson as Secretary of State, General Henry Knox as Secretary of War and General Edmund Randolph as Attorney General.
In the 18th century, the common man of America needed someone in politics who they could relate to. They needed someone who had lived through difficult times just as they had, because all the previous presidents came from wellborn slaveholding families (Hollitz, 193). After Jackson had overcome an immense amount of adversity in his youth, he took that strong will to the military and on the
Honest Abe Abraham Lincoln is famous for wearing the tallest hats, but was most influential for his accomplishment for reuniting the country. Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809 near Hodgenville, Kentucky. As a child, he was a bibliophile. The white house took in his wife, and two young sons, because one of them had pasted away. His political party was Republican serving only two terms, as he was assassinated on April 15, 1865.
He was born in 1836 in Roxbury, New York. He was a very intellectual and an ambitious man. He used to work at his father’s farm during the day and studied at night. In 1867 Daniel Drew (director of Eri Railroad) added Jim Fisk, dry goods merchant and Gould to the board of directors of Eri Railroads. The team of these three men slowly took over control and Gould became the president.
Abraham Lincoln: His Impact On America When you hear the name Abraham Lincoln, what comes to mind? Maybe that he was the sixteenth president of the United States, a very tall man with an awkward face, or just a name you heard about in a history class. Lincoln was more than just those elements, he was a leader in the face of war. His life and leadership became idolized for their greatness. Abraham Lincoln greatly impacted the United States of America through his democratic leadership, commitment to human freedom, crucial role in the Emancipation Proclamation, and efforts to have the North and South reunited.
A farm worker is someone that moves around with the work, they work in farms picking whatever the land gives them. In the fields, his family faced many struggles. The Chavez family would pick from the farms different things depending on the seasons. For example, peas in the winter, cherries in the spring, corn in the summer and cotton for the fall. In 1942, after graduating 8th grade Cesar dropped out and started working in the fields to help support his family.
