Pages 49-53 Dear Journal August 3, 1492 I can’t believe that King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella of Spain gave me the opportunity to go sailing. It took me a couple of tries, but they agreed to supply me with everything I need. The ruler of Spain gave me three ships-the Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria.
Since they were short of supplies John White goes back to London to get more supplies but gets caught up in a war for about 3 years. In those 3 years of fighting no one was checking up on the people at Roanoke, White had forgot about them and so did the king. After those 3 years White remembers about the people and tells the king about the whole situation so they send recue ships but it was a little too late. When they got back to Roanoke no one was alive it seemed as if they had disappeared into the
Why did so many colonist die in Jamestown? Three ships sail to a brand new land with about 100 British colonist, but little did they know what they had coming for them. Within a year already half of the men pass away, but why? It was during the Anglo-Spanish War when the remaining group of colonists had disappeared. The only thing we’ve found other than ruins is a carving on a fence that reads “CROATOAN”. Croatoan is the name of an Indian tribe and a name of an island(http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2013/12/131208-roanoke-lost-colony- discovery-history-raleigh/). There are many theories of what actually happened to the colony of Roanoke, the five theories that are most controversial are the colonists tried to settle in Chesapeake Bay, the colonists were lost at sea, the colonists were killed by Native Americans or the most logical one, they were killed by natural disasters, or the most probable theory: the colonists were assimilated into one or more Indian tribes. Many people believe that the colonists just left Roanoke to settle in the Chesapeake Bay.Such as, the British historian, David Beers Quinn, who concluded that the colonists most likely went northward to the Chesapeake Bay area(https://suite101.com/a/the-lost-colony- of-roanoke-a87977). It was thought that they built a boat of some kind by stripping down their houses and using the materials.
Some, including historian Kieran Doherty, suggest that Bradford's silence on the subject is an indication of his purported shame over her suicide. There are no contemporary accounts to indicate whether her death was an accident or a suicide. Great sickness The Mayflower arrived in Plymouth Bay on December 20, 1620. The settlers began building the colony's first house on December 23. Their efforts were slowed, however, when a widespread sickness struck the
