The theme of the living Constitution finds expression in today's Internet discussions of the American Constitution in comparison with the constitutions of other nations. The website below will connect you to various constitutions of the world. Review several countries' constitutions and then write an essay, which compares the similarities and differences among the American Constitution and foreign Constitutions. I chose the constitutions of El Salvador and Germany to compare to the Constitution of the United States. There are many similarities between all three but there are also many differences. The first country I am going to discuss is El Salvador. Their constitution was ratified December 20th, 1983 and it is a more modern constitution than our own. In their constitution they state that their country is a republican, democratic and representative and that their political system is pluralist with political parties much like our own country. They have three branches of government – legislative, executive and judicial. Their president, like the United States president, is the commander in chief of the armed forces. All Salvadoran’s between the ages of 18 and 30 must serve in the military if it is necessary. This would be similar to the United States’ draft for the military.…show more content…
Both countries believe in equal rights but the the word equality was not present in the original constitution of the United States. It wasn’t until after the Civil War that equality is mentioned in the Fourteenth Amendment.
