Introduction Community psychology and public health share a common result to their studies: improving the lives of society. Be that through medical models, scientific research, and therapy or teaching basic developmental and hygiene skills. A critical comparison between the two entails comparing these two approaches and discussing their commonalities and their differences. To conclude improvements will be suggested and controversies brought to light. 2. Two Models Compared: Commonalities To start it is of crucial note to mention that both of these approaches to social ills are prevention orientated and therefore try to pinpoint and inhibit social ills before they affect society in a harmful manner (Seedat, Cloete & Shochet, 1988). The focus is on social causes of mental illness and diseases and how our daily practices can lead to these spreading and becoming an epidemic (Guernina, 1995). Public health approaches and community psychology have been known to undergo change due to political influences at a given period of history.
