Communications Skill Assessment Communications Skill Assessment Business 600: Management Communication with Technology Tools NAA1326A Communications Skill Assessment The article How Good Are Your Communication Skills stated, “Communication skills are some of the most important skills that you need to succeed in the workplace.”(para. 1). After taking my assessment on communication skills, I discovered I have gaps and I need additional training in order to advance in my profession. The result of my assessment is I am a capable communicator, but I sometimes experience communication problems. (How Good Are Your Communication Skills? http://www.mindtools.com/pages/article/newCS_99.htm). It is known that communication is easy for some people and for others it is a great challenge. I fall in the category of it being a great challenge for me. Practice will definitely improve my communication skills. Growing up, I was extremely shy and I was later in life diagnosed with selective mutism. Extreme social anxiety was another diagnosis. My first year in college, I had to do a debate on “The Death Penalty” and I remember going back to my desk after it was over shaking and crying. I was married at the time; my husband and I were in the same class. Being that he is an extrovert, it was easy and natural for him to get up in front of the class and speak. Being that I am an introvert, this was quite a task. Needless to say, I have come a long way and every step of the way took determination along with hard work. I still struggle in certain areas; this is why I am not surprised that I have communication gaps. My goal is to improve in these areas planning my message, choosing the right channel, encoding, and decoding. Communication is necessary in all walks of life, be it professional or personal, so to master it, one needs to practice
