COMMUNICATION WITHOUT TALKING 1 The most important or most used way of communicating without talking is body language. " Body language has over 1 million different signals and gestures." (Pam Robinson, Page 6) It is sometimes said, "what you do speaks so loud that I cannot hear what you are saying." Here are just a few of the signals and gestures I speak of: I'm angry, usually a person will have his or her arms folded and a look on their face sometime called a snarl, shoulders hunched, and etc; No is at times signaled by shaking the head and sometime by the head being thrown back with a harsh look on the face; Also there is the look at me gesture, when a person dresses in a manner that will call attention to themselves, what many call wild or overly colorful; Then there is the person that speaks by hand shakes,nods, kisses or any signal that is accepted in his or her culture; Greetings can be shown by a hug of approval, a firm hand shake, or any simular way that can be likened to a greeting; Some interviewers will usually interpret how how a person shakes hands, firm handshake can mean a person is a good leader, a weak handshake can be a follower; at ball games, the crowed shows their approval or disapproval by a thumbs up or thumbs down; A persons clothes usually communicates a message, usually who or what they are, called stereotyping. Messages can be sent by facial expressions, for example married couples can usually let the other party male or female approve or disapprove by a glance or nod in many cases. When in line at the grocery store or at a function when the two are not sitting close together. These signals are common for many couples. Another form of nonverbal communication is news papers.
