Communication Paper Stacy HCS/490 July 16, 2012 Cindy Perkins Abstract A communication system involves people, the messages they wish to convey, the technologies that mediate conversations, and the organizational structures that define the conversations that are allowed to occur. In this paper, I will describe the benefit of electronic medical record to health care patients. Secondly, explain the aspect relating to the values and importance of maintaining patient confidentiality when using electronic medical records mode of communication. Thirdly, identify one reason this mode is an effective means of communication between consumers and providers and does this mode of communication differ from others. Finally, I will discuss how might media and social networking change communication in health care and how electronic medical records mode of communication used to market health care products or services. Communication Paper The terms electronic medical record (EMR) and electronic health record (EHR) are often used interchangeably. At a minimum, EMR systems replicate all aspects of your paper charting. They are designed to facilitate all the documentation you do in your office already, lab results, visit notes, diagnostic test results, insurance information, demographics, health histories, medication information, and more (“Electronic Medical Records and Electronic Health Records ,” 1995). EMR system makes the entire process of patient record keeping easier, more accurate and comprehensive, and more efficient. With an EMR system, doctors use specialized software that allows them to enter their patient records electronically.
