Bridgette Westly Assignment 1.1 Communicating in the Workplace. Who was the sender? Tiffany, the office Secretary. Who was the receiver and their role (manager, peer, client, employee, vendor, etc.)? I was the receiver, Real Estate Agent. What was the message? Your client has postponed her closing today, she had a death in the family and will not be flying in. Do not pick her up from the airport. What channel was used to send the message? Email What was the misunderstanding that occurred? I have email on my cell phone, the message that was retrieved was your client has postponed her closing today. The entire email did not come through. Of course I was at the airport, my client flight comes in at 6:00pm. I arrived around 5:30pm. My office closes at 5:00 so at that point I could not reach out to Tiffany. During all of this time I had to call the closing Attorney so he would not make a blank trip. I’m not keeping track of time due to the rush of rescheduling everything. Finally I look at my watch and notice it is 7:00pm, no sight of Gwen, my client. I finally go to the ticket counter and inquire. Was told she was not on the flight, at that point I panicked. Rushed back to my car to call Gwen and see if she just missed her flight, and would be on the next one. After speaking with her I found out about her family loss, and of course I showed sympathy and ask her to call me when she’s ready to come. Answer the following questions: 1. What did you learn about the communication process from this activity? Technology is taking over the way we do things today.
