We often find ourselves criticizing the way a message is presented and ignoring its content or value. We don’t like the message being “read” to us, we find the speaker lacking in experience, or we don’t care for the negative tone of the boss. Our listening focuses on delivery and approach.
Yelling is not the right way to teach a child that they just did something wrong. When you explain to a child in a positive yet strict way that their actions were not pleasing, they perceive the information so much better than when being yelled at. Just like with my own children, I always reassured my classroom children that even though they made a bad decision, I still love them. The challenge didn’t come from my own classroom, the challenges came from the guardians. Through our program, we had to have several “workshops” with the guardians each year.
They also struggled with understanding the difference between their ‘best alternative’ and the lens assigned ‘best alternative’. Ethical lenses adopted by individuals tend to influence decision making by affecting how problems and conflicts are approached. Your ethical lens of preference makes you ‘blind’ to the other approaches and makes it difficult to see the benefits of the other lenses and weaknesses of your own lens. This adds tension to groups because what seems like the best solution to a problem to a single team member might be completely inappropriate to another. The team found that these different approaches can create more issues within a team or group if you don’t understand that everyone has their own ‘right approach.’ To a rights and responsibilities lens approaching an issue head on and dealing with the conflict directly might not be fun, but it is necessary in order to move past the problem in the most efficient way possible.
It is important not to speak out of angry emotions, and again sometimes it is best to tell an employee that one may need to think on the matter first before responding. While it may not seem like a "big deal" it is important to make sure that the words that are used when speaking to employees are simple and clear. Some employees may not understand the use of large words, and therefore the message that the manager / supervisor is trying to convey may be lost. Good grammar is also a must for every type communication. Use of slang terms is not a wise idea, as what is acceptable in generation / culture could be offensive to the next.. We must make sure we are saying exactly what we mean to and clearly enough that so that others are going to hear exactly what the manager / supervisor is trying to say.
From a communication’s point of view, noise in the business world can have very costly and detrimental effects as miscommunication can result due to difficulties in listening. This causes problems for both the senders and receivers of messages. The obvious notions of noise would be any physical activity cause by external sources beyond the control of those communicating between one another and literally prevents the receiver from hearing a clear message (such as a door slamming or the sound of a passing plane). When exploring different concepts of noise, we also learn that differences in culture, ethnicity, religion and class as well as factors such as sex and age can alter the perception of how a message is received (known as internal noise). Semantic noise refers to the meaning and value of words, which also differs according to the receiver’s perspective and background.
Third was the need for me to know not only that there was a dissatisfaction with my work performance, but, also that there would be consequences that affected my job. What transpired in this example is one of the barriers of communication – Silence. The employment agency assumed that no news was good news. We see that this was not the case. In reality, ‘silence and information withheld are both common and problematic.’ (Robbins & Judge, pg
It should be noted that is still advantageous to outsource some specific tasks on the IT department, such as infrastructure and user support. However, the focus should be in repetitive tasks that although important, does not shape the organization strategy. The IT strategy and architecture decisions should hardly ever be outsourced. There are various examples of organizations that stepped back in outsourcing deals, because the advantages of such contracts, especially on costs, do not offset the cultural and strategy hardship that it brings. The organization should avoid making outsource decisions purely based on costs, since there are many other risks involved.
We have a difficulty in defining information because it differs from one person to another and what this person consider as good information . As for information technology it is the technology of processing, planning, designing..etc using software and computer systems. Question # 2: Tangible costs of Information systems: Costs of new equipment, cost of installing equipment and machines, training costs, maintenance costs and new personnel and staff costs. Intagible costs of Information systems: Losses due to low productivity , waste of time needed to train existing employees, low morale of staff, no satisfaction of employees when seeing the end result of their work, upsetting customers from system change. Tangible measures of the Value of information system: Better quality of work, more automation so less wastes, accurate work, no human
Children serving as soldiers were not uncommon in some countries. Marriages took place when a person was approximately twelve years of age in the hopes that they could reproduce in the few years that they had to live. Young people in these times were exposed to the harsh realities of life virtually from birth. Death was also an every day event when the average life span was approximately forty years of age. Only one in five children survived to adulthood, so the loss of siblings was a common occurrence as well.
Society is in a me generation and for the family to work and cannot be like that. This problem will still persist if there are still people who put themselves over their kids nine times out of ten. Culture and society also say it is okay to have children at such a young age when you cannot physically take care of them is a problem as well. The idea of family needs to morph back into what it was instead of what it is seen as today. Single mothers and fathers have a hard time raising one child let alone two or three but yet they keep on having child after child.
