Q. Which communication media has had the most impact on society? You may choose one, or compare the impacts of two. (1200) Over the past decade there have been several new technologies that have had a lasting impression on society today. It is with these new technologies that society has changed the way they think and act, and it is in this particular essay whereby there are two important mediums that are to be compared, that is the radio and Television. If it were not for these two mediums than people would not be able to communicate their ideas and beliefs with everyone else in society, or be able to communicate with the wider community, therefore possibly causing a rift in the way society acts with each other and possibly the rest of the world (as can be evident during the Vietnam war). This essay will not only argue the fact that these two communication mediums have had an incredible influence on human society, but will delve more into the concept that television has played a major role in the way society has developed, socially, culturally and psychologically, and the idea that the size of this incredible impact appears to be more than what is visible. Over the years, technology has gradually improved in order to communicate effectively. The very first medium for communication was verbal, in that when someone wanted news it came from another person’s mouth, or the towns’ nominated herald. From here it led to newspapers in which was distributed to anyone who could read and were interested in the news and daily gossip. This medium was effective as people were able to know the news, but it was also ineffective as people were getting news after it actually happened, and therefore did not know the full story in some circumstances.
