Commonalities and Successes Paper BSHS 425 July 12, 2015 Commonalities and Successes Paper Human services organizations, and general business organizations have many things in common. Businesses in general, aim at targeting an aspect of the population, and professionals train to become successful in their chosen field. Businesses in general develop products, services, and delivery, of consumer goods. Business is affected by supply and demand. Human service delivery is affected by the human condition (Lewis, Packard, & Lewis, 2012). The difference is, in the human services field, our goal is to help the public better their standard of living through social services, through personal development, increase clients well being mentally, physically, emotionally, and help the public meet basic social needs. We better our communities through social work (Lewis, Packard, & Lewis, 2012). The Common Denominator of all Human Services Programs In the Human Services field, our focus is in community development, and meeting individual needs. Human service providers are educated in social work, experienced, and dedicated workers, to meet the needs of special populations (Lewis, Packard, & Lewis, 2012). The range of services provided is wide, and varied. Elder care, childcare, and child adoptive services, are examples of individuals in different life stages that are in need of assistance. Mental health, substance abuse, and the incarcerated, are good examples of special populations with a special need, requiring service workers trained in the needs of these special populations. Some populations suffer from inequality, racism, and discrimination; requiring human services professions to act as advocates for special populations suffering marginalization (Lewis, Packard, & Lewis, 2012).
