C O M E T S A Comet is an icy and very small solar system body, when its close to the Sun it displays a visible Coma and sometimes also a tail. Imagine a small dirty snowball streaking across the solar system, this would be a Comet, except that Comets are the leftovers of clouds that sometimes form billions of icy lumps and mostly made of Oxidized Hydrogen and muddy snow in better terms its frozen water, methane, and amonia, they sometimes get knocked off course and to a path towards the sun. Then the ice in the comets boils causing it to get big and form a tail. On Earth these showers of lights are called Meteors. Edmond Halley was known to have found Halley’s comet, he predicted that some comets follow orbits that keep returning them to the sun. Halley’s comet is best known out of all comets, only because it is visible from planet Earth every 70 to 75 years. Astronomers have been observing this comet since 240 BC, the last time this comet was seen was in 1986 and will next appear around 2061. But this comet is most famous comet in History because, it made an appearance right BEFORE the Battle Of Hastings! Halley’s Comet isn’t the only famous comet there is also Comet Halle-Bopp, Comet Swift-Tuttle, Comet Hyakute, and Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9. Halle-Bopp was famous because it was 1,000 times brighter than Halley, this comet is on a 2,000 to 3,000 orbit around the sun. All comets have a some take about a 1,000 years to be seen again, well as astronomers predict so. Their nucleus looks like a little part of a meteorite just a ball of muddy rock, the ice makes the comet appear rather large and from were we are standing that comet appears Gigantic. Comets can pretty much just come from two places, either Oort cloud or the Kuiper belt. The Oort Cloud is a giant spherical shell that goes around the sun about 1 million million comets
