The fact that it’s described as portentous is symbolising the importance of what is about to become for the married couple this seems ironic has Daisy and Tom have not valued they’re marriage so far yet it is still a serious relationship that is not easily broken. The wedding march may symbolise the re-birth of Daisy and Tom’s marriage. Fitzgerald could be using this symbolism as a forewarning for the future; to subtly hint to the reader that Daisy and Tom will keep their marriage together. Fitzgerald uses the wedding march to create ironic juxtaposition. The wedding march obviously means that one marriage is beginning and ironically right above the wedding on appears to crumbling.

Gifts are also given at rather specific times, and an examination of the occasions involved may also help lead to an understanding of important events and stages in the lives of the people concerned (Hendry 1999) The gift that you receive will have to be appropriate depending on the relationship that you have with that person and for what occasion it is for. For example, it is inappropriate to give a bracelet to someone who is an acquaintance to you on a day that has no significance to him or her because a) you do not know that person well and b) unless this day was a wedding, engagement, birthday present or something along those lines, then spending money on a bracelet is too much
My grandparents are somewhat alike in that they are traditional and sometimes quiet. However my grandparents do like to try some new things. My parents are different from Francie’s parents because Francie’s parents encourage dating and getting married young. My parents certainly discourage marriage young. My parents won’t even allow me to date until college.
Nick could have prevented all of this madness and confusion if he just said no to Gatsby’s request. So Nick needs to say, well, to Gatsby more often. Their friendship would have lasted longer if Nick could put in his word and Gatsby did not get everything he wanted. The forth step is for Nick to stay will Jordan. Jordan is a girl Nick met at one of Gatsby’s parties and he falls in love with her.
It begs the question of whether or not his celibacy was less a vow to adhere to a philosophical belief or more as a convenient explanation for why he hasn’t been sexually active. We know that his year of celibacy happened to coincide with his previous encounters with Princess “I’d had such idealistic longings for that girl in the past year and had conscience-stricken hours wondering if I should seduce her because she was so young and all (pg 20)”. It seems his celibacy over the last year may have been less about choice and more a way to hide his self doubt and feeling of inadequacy in relation to Princess. Japhy on the other hand is staunch in his declarations of simple living in particular avoiding excesses and vice. When it comes to women and in particular, sexual relations with women, Japhy indulges mightily and without regret.
Also this apology letter was very personal, another thing we do not expect to come out of an apology letter. We expect it to say sorry for the inconvenience, we send you our greatest apologies, the end. Not in this case, the employee Rick goes on to tell the recipient of the letter about his personal life, he compares his use of the newest model of the I can speak to show her how much happier she would be with a newer model. In most cases she would just be told the features of the new model in the letter, but rick makes sure she knows how it has affected his life personally. He even goes on to call her foolish in a sense he says in the letter
He did not realize that his dream had passed him by. He believed that since he had money, which is what Daisy needed, she would leave Tom and run into his arms, thinking their love would start right where they left it. He reenacted their reunion so much in his head; he was thrown off by reality, and did not think about what would happen if she did not take him back. Gatsby ended up chasing a dream that was already gone. The green light gave him hope and promise that his dream was still obtainable, and that it was possible for him to keep trying to achieve his life long goal of having Daisy.
