Color Blind vs. Color Conscience Color blindness is a concept that reaches for equality among all human beings by means of disguising a person’s skin color and race. In a color-blind society a person will be judged solely on their way of being instead of their race, however, in a color conscience society, people would appreciate culture and diversity. Your customs will be distinguished by your culture. Imagine being the only color conscience person in a colorblind world. You were hungry at work so you head out for a lunch break and have a craving for Chinese food. In this colorblind world “Chinese food” does not exist so if you ask around no one will know what you’re talking about. In a world like this Individual cultures would not exist, and half our history would be wiped out. We should live in a color conscious society because without diversity, there is no room for advancement. Diversity is important because it provides our society and culture with unique and inspiring perspectives of different lifestyles. Diversity creates new ideas and changes that are beneficial to our societies. If we all looked the same, smelled the same, dressed the same, our lives would be boring and there wouldn’t be any excitement from that. With diversity we get to look at other cultures lifestyles and use that as a basis to grow as a nation and better ourselves. Comparing ourselves to others is a good thing. Lisa Earle McLeod, author of The Triangle of Truth, which the Washington Post named as a "Top Five Book for Leaders," stated that, “comparing shows you what's possible.” Imagine your classmate’s mates are giving presentations, and one of the students did an extraordinary job and was very creative.
