Encouraging and establishing student self-control through a process of promoting positive student achievement and behavior is what every classroom needs. Classroom rules and procedures should be established with students the first week of school. Each student should have full understanding and be aware of what is expected of him/her. Providing a safe learning environment where students can participant is a key factor in classroom management. A student needs to feel comfortable with themselves, others, and the teacher, so there can be meaningful discussion and interactions.
3.4: Promote children and young people’s positive behaviour. 1.2 Evaluate how the policies and procedures of the setting support children and young people to: * Feel safe- A school should ensure that every child attending the school feels safe. Policies like Safeguarding children ensure that the right procedures are in place to protect children. All staff working within the school should be trained on the correct procedures for safeguarding children. Anti-bullying policies are in place in school to ensure the children know that bullying is not acceptable behaviour but a child should feel confident enough to report an incident if one occurs and should know who they can go to within the school to discuss any such situations.
For a school to be the best place to mould good behavior and emotions, it needs to have consistent rules and consequences in case an individual breaks them. There should be avenues to solve various types of conflicts and close connection between the school and culture. Intense supervision should give students a sense of belonging and allow students to fully and confidently participate in the schools affairs.
Waiting for the Superior Hero In the film, they revealed how bad teachers are often transferred from one school to another. This can be seen as a rotation cycle which is not turning out well for the public school system as well for the students. The reason being why a school lets a teacher go is because they discover that they are not doing their job efficiently which leads students to not learning. When students do not learn at least the basics of education, then they do not meet the state standards and cannot enter the next grade level. With this in mind, administrators are stuck trying to figure out what in the world are they doing wrong.
* * Health and safety at work act 1974 * * The health and safety at work act is implemented in my setting, this ensures that not only the pupils are safe but also the staff of the school know what they need to do in order to keep them safe from any dangers they could find in their setting. * It places a duty for employers to help their employees have a safe working environment that is reasonable and workable in. * The staff not only have their own health and safety to consider, they also have the other staff and pupils of the school to look after and make sure that anything that they may do whilst at work will not danger anybody else in their setting, such as when using equipment. * It is also to ensure that any danger is prevented or controlled when found, such as if a machine is not able to be used then making sure the health and safety officer is notified and the problems is fixed so ensure nothing happens to anybody that is in their setting. * It is also for the staff to ensure that anything that the children may be using is in a good working order so that no danger can happen to a pupil or another member of staff because of their mistakes.
208.1.1 Describe how current Health and Safety legislation, policies and procedures are implemented in the school The key points of this act are to make further provision for securing the health, safety and welfare of persons in the workplace. For protecting others against risks to health or safety in connection with the activities of people at work. To find this information I researched HSE.gov.uk The School promotes Health and Safety for children and staff and others using the school premises. The school always sends a letter to parents to ask if their children have any disabilities, ailments or allergies that we need to know of, inhalers and relevant medication are kept in the school office. There is a strict rule that needs to be followed concerning children being picked up from school and if parents cannot pick their children up, meaning someone else picking them up, the school needs to know to avoid any risks of child abduction.
Students are aware of the policy. Indeed, they are told this on the first day of classes and a circular is sent home to each student’s parents or guardians in order to inform them of this. All are aware that to enforce the policy, the school authorities may resort to the use of police officers with drug detector dogs. As part of the principal’s responsibilities under the Education Act, the principal is charged with maintaining a safe and orderly school. The zero tolerance policy and the means of enforcing it are steps taken to ensure the existence of a safe and orderly learning
The act states that the information must be relevant and not excessive, processed fairly and lawfully and for limited purposes only. It also states how records should be kept and be transferred in a secure manner, again, providing reassurances to parent and students that any personal information the school holds about them will remain confidential. Both pieces of legislation help to encourage trust between families and schools. Trust is the basis for any successful relationship, and will enable the school and families to work together to improve the overall development of the children and young people in their care, not just their educational outcomes but their wellbeing too. The Acts allows openness in the discussions between schools and children, families of challenging or vulnerable children to know that any sensitive information given will be treated as confidential and kept safe.
I think providing our schools with better security is an issue that should not be put on the back burner to be discussed only when a shooting occurs in our school. We want our schools to be safe and have adequate, security but we do not want our schools to become a prison. We want students and teachers to feel safe and secure when they enter their classroom. We must try and figure out a way to achieve this goal without providing our teachers with firearms. Since I’m currently working in the field of Early Childcare and Education, and I have several grandchildren that are in school I hope this is a goal that we can
Random locker checks are not done to torment and/or invade the privacy of the students, but for many other important reasons which include school security. These checks are required because malicious students bring drugs and weapons to school and store them in the lockers. Random locker checks should be made obligatory and done frequently to assure the wellbeing of the students. In the first place, locker checks help increase the safety in schools. Safety is a problem in every environment and especially school.
