College provides us with the knowledge and credibility that employers seek in this demanding world today. However a huge debate has to be brought to attention if going to college and receiving a bachelor’s degree should be a requirement to even get your foot in the door or be considered for a job. An interesting point of view on the bachelor’s degree being a job requirement is in the essay “Should The Obama Generation Drop Out?” by Charles Murray. Murray is a scholar at the American Enterprise Institute, has written on social issues and published a book in 2008 regarding real education. I think Murray’s point of views will change a lot of people and the way they see education as a primary resource to qualify to get a good job.
Murray and Ungar Synthesis In the many recent debates about how to approach higher education, one issue that has constantly appears is the question of students benefiting from a liberal arts based education. Some argue that a liberal arts education is helpful in teaching students the basic life skills, others claim that a more specific field of study is necessary in order to b successful in life. In Ungar’s essay “the New Liberal Arts”, he claims that with a liberal arts education, students can benefit tremendously when they receive their jobs. In Murray’s essay “Are Too Many People Going to College”, he proclaims that a liberal arts degree is not highly recommended because the more difficult careers want students to take classes that are more specific to a job. Sanford J. Ungar and Charles Murray both conduct and display their own opinion towards the facts they learned through their own strenuous research.
Transformational Changes Different stages of the transformational learning cycles are reconging a problem, confronting it, finding a solution, integrating a new perspective. Through the stages of transformational learning its implementing on a persons life changes. Recongizing that they are not the only being going through this change. Petrie worked his way up to being a professor at an university. By doing that he was able to see how the athletes were treated within the university system. The ethos would be that he is an English professor of student athletes. Petrie was a professor to some of the college athletes and the athletic department wanted progress reports. Petrie says, “The athletic department might actually be more concerned with athletes’ eligibility than with their academic work” (3).

The article could be considered scholarly as it is published on one of the university’s course websites and authored by someone with a PhD. I feel as if Dr. Murphy was biased at all. I also feel as if the information is applicable at any university. This will strengthen my essay in the form of giving some of the key points I make
There are many challenges that students will face as they enter graduate level education, and one of those challenges will be staying motive and remembering why students purse a graduate degree. For some students, “graduate students suffer from insecurity, anxiety, and even boredom” (How To Succeed In Graduate School: A Guide For Students And Advisors , 1994). From experience, one way to help stay motivate would be to create a calendar with all of the class
ty Assessment Personality Assessment Cheryl Melton University of Phoenix PSCHY/504 Von, Rathsachack February 6, 2012 Personality Assessment Personality assessment has gone through many stages of controversy to determine the best method in determining a person’s personality and the areas of problems that exist for the person. From Freud to Cattell there have been many who have put pen to paper to analyze and perform studies to determine the best method to use. This paper will elaborate on three such methods, 16 Personality Factor Questionnaire, Rorschach Inkblot Test, and Self-help books; comparing the validity, comprehensiveness, applicability, and cultural utility of each. 16 Personality Factor Questionnaires “In 1949, Raymond Cattell published the first edition of his 16 Personality Factor Questionnaire” (16 Personality Factor Fifth Edition Questionnaire, 2010, p. 1). His revolutionary concept of the use of structure through factor analysis that measures the whole of the human personality was advanced through the fifth edition by natural evolution to reflect today’s changes in society (16 Personality Factor Fifth Edition Questionnaire, 2010).
Defining Social Psychology Brandi K. Keller PSY/400 March 20, 2013 Dr. Timothy Doty Defining Social Psychology Throughout the years each field of science and each discipline relating to psychology has had to fight to prove its point and its relevance to the field; therefore, making each field of psychology worthy of its place within the science and academic communities. One of the many behaviors observed during this trial has been the way people think, influence, and relate to others otherwise known as social psychology. Friends, family, and collogues influence each other, which can be either a positive or a negative influence. How each person thinks and relates to these influences is what determines if the influence will be a positive
Table of contents Introduction Meaning Concept of social action Types of social action The theory of understanding the actions The criticisms of the doctrine Conclusions Bibliography Explicate and Evaluate Weber’s argument that social arguments need to be understood and not simply explained. Introduction Since time immemorial there have been long standing debates revolving around two of the most important school of thoughts in the field of social studies and the arguments that emanate from the studies. Even during my undergraduate days as well, in my sociology lecture seminars, I have come across quite a few academic disputes discussed by my lecturers, which have occurred over the years between the positivist school of thought and the non positivist school of thought. There have also been debates centred on the role of ‘verstehen’ played in order to understand social phenomena and the social arguments that are generated from it. In this essay I have attempted to favour Weber’s point of view that social argument need to be understood and not simply explained.
