Gatto says that school diminishes creativity; if anything kids discover their hidden creativeness in class while at school. He also says that kids are not able to advance in higher learning. When clearly, kids are able to follow the teacher and be able to get A's while the subjects get more extreme. Gatto says, "teachers tend to blame the kids, as you might expect"(pg. 683) from personal experiences I can say that I have had great relationships with my teachers throughout elementary school and especially High school.
My attention flitted here and there” (Rose 160). Not only he didn’t pay attention in class, but he “fooled around in class and read my books indifferently” (Rose 160). Rose became incompetent because there was no level set by the teachers and the “Students will float to the mark you set” (Rose 160). During the course of the school year Mike narrates how he is being abuse emotionally and verbally by his so called “teachers”. Rose describes why and how his teacher abuse authority in him and on other students and he says, “When his class drifted away from him, which was often, his voice would rise in paranoid accusations, and occasionally he would lose control and shake or smack us”.
Meanwhile back at home his family still spoke to their children in English to help them better understand how important it was to learn it. Listening to the other kids run up and down the street and speak English and it made him Feel worse than he already felt which made him more anxious to learn. It was painfully obvious that Richard was having a hard time speaking in public which was why he never spoke up in class. One day in class he came over his shyness and raised his hand to give an answer in a loud voice and to his surprise the whole class understood what he had
She states multiple times that the children within the education system are being cheated every day because they are not being forced to read more difficult books. “Such benefits are denied to the young reader exposed only to books with banal, simple-minded moral equations as well as to the student encouraged to come up with reductive, wrong-headed readings of mulitlayered texts” (Prose 97). The reader can blatantly see that Prose thinks negatively of the high school curriculum that today's students face. It seems clear that Prose does not want to hide her personal view or feelings, so she starts her essay out in a way that we do not have to read between the lines to get a sense of how she feels about what she is writing. She uses more emotional language when she says, "The intense loyalty adults harbor for books first encountered in youth is one probable reason for the otherwise baffling longevity of vintage mediocre novels, books that teachers may themselves have read in adolescence"(Prose
In example, if a student gets by in his English class not caring and not trying to learn, but his teacher likes the student so he passed him, when that student goes to college he will have trouble because he doesn’t know how to write a correct essay because he was given the grade. “Ten of thousands of 18 years-old will graduate this year and will be handed meaningless diplomas (Sherry 510). This shows most students have high school diplomas but
Yes, of course you have your meetings and test to go do inside the school lab, but you still have your independence. There are many kids that can not work right because what their teacher is in the same room, some worry about what the teacher is always thinking. Either they are worrying what their peers are thinking or how they are judging you. With online you can do everything by yourself, when you need help and you can not go to the lab right at the moment you can email, or mail message on the virtual profile site. Another option is to text, all kids love to text, so when you need support and quick response you can just text your teacher.
Often I had to defy custom, and even bend the law, to help kids break out of this trap”. (667) The kids strike back, of course; childish adults regularly conflate opposition with disloyalty. I once had a teacher in the third grade who taught the way she wanted to teach not by what the school system wanted her to teach. Now that I look back on it she was probably the most respected teacher by teaching the way she did and I think I learned the most that year
Such as, writing better essays, becoming more familiar with bigger words and incorporating them into my daily life. In my last class, we were taught how to identify poetic elements and how we run into them more often then we think. We also learned how to write different types of essays for different occasions. Some of the challenges I faced in his class was that he was a very strict grader and we had very detailed packets on books. I wasn’t well with reading the book on time but I was very good at catching up.
Someday, I didn’t even wanted to go to school because my teachers used to use a strong punishment for students who come to class and they’re not prepared. The most difficult part was for me was pronunciation since my major was “English” and we usually don’t practice English in my country except for “ doctors” and “engineering” I had many words that couldn’t even read neither pronounce it. I think that our minds must be area or gap for choice about how to think in order to understand things well as Ho thoughtful about children’s mind in the article 2. Which of Ho’s ideas
Department of Education that show that girls outshine boys in reading, writing, science, math, and have a lot higher educational aspirations. She also gives us data that shows that girls are starting to beat boys in enrolling in college, and that girls are more engaged in academically then boys. She implies that all of this has been happening because the educational doesn’t “favor” boys over girls anymore. I agree with that statement, but I also don’t think that the educational should let boys be “left behind” either. Yes, boys are bad at school; I can say this because I’m a boy and I see everything first hand, my peers are less and less interested in school and college, they often talk about just either dropping out of high school and getting a job, graduating and just work and not go to college or simply join the military.
