In today’s competitive business world technology and the use of information systems are important tools for the start of a successful business. Ruben Keys and Lisa Tejada worked together in nightclubs performing as musicians while pursuing their business degrees. After graduating with degrees in Business Administration they decided to open up a nightclub in combination with their prior work experience. They opened and currently manage a music venue downtown that they have named Club IT. From the start both have played vital roles in allocating resources and have come to the conclusion that there is a complete need for information management. To do this they have decided that a full analysis of their company’s information needs are in order and have hired me to perform that task. To assist in analyzing the clubs information needs the correct strategy for competitive advantage must be identified to meet the challenges of the market. Club IT has available competitive advantage strategies to consider. These strategies include: cost leadership, differentiation, innovation, operational effectiveness, and customer orientation. According to Rainer & Turbin (2008), the mission for Club IT states, “We, Ruben and Lisa, offer you live music, DJ's, dance space and refreshments that suit your lifestyle. You are our friends, and we seek to build a community that meets regularly at Club IT.” Club IT offers an atmosphere geared to an eclectic group of patrons that enjoy dancing, a variety of music genres, good food, spirits and the sense of community. This mission statement in tandem with a review of the current year-end financial statement leads me to deduce that the customer-orientation strategy would suit their information needs best.
