The SIOP Model* is a research-based and validated model of sheltered instruction. Professional development in the SIOP Model helps teachers plan and deliver lessons that allow English learners to acquire academic knowledge as they develop English language proficiency. The Center for Applied Linguistics is an excellent place for educators to gather research-based tools for working effectively with English Language Learners.This is a model, I will use to create a lesson plan for ELL students. The key points are to clearly post, refer to, and review learning objectives and language objectives.
Anisha Spellman Benchmark Assessment: Language Arts Unit Plan Grand Canyon University: EED-525 November 27, 2013 “Learning to read and reading to learn” is a quote that one of the schools in my district uses to help motivate reading in all students and their families. I believe reading is an important aspect of all lives. What exactly would the world be like without the reading? It is crucial that we teach this to all of the little children while they are young and trying to learn. The more they practice and the more teachers and parents instill this in their minds, the better they will become.
In society many would think that teaching financial literacy in high school is not a good idea because the students already have many things to worry about. They think that teaching financial literacy would just add on to the load. They also assume that financial literacy skills are just common sense. Whereas some people also believe that teaching financial literacy is an excellent idea because it will help the students manage their future finances well. It will help them understand the basics of financial planning as it is not common sense.
I believe that students also need to learn about effective communication strategies primarily in school so that they can find ways to work together with their teachers and peers to find academic success. The successful methods of communicating that is learnt in school can be carried out in communicating with others out side of school as well. Within the classroom I encourage
Visual Arts is important in primary schools, because visual arts are a class of art .Visual arts ‘’is said to be important in primary school’’ since it help children develop their intelligence, as well as the overall personality of students. In fact, studies have shown that students who exposed to visual arts tend to display above average intelligence, when it comes to mathematics and science. Likewise, students who greatly exposed to visual arts are observed to exhibit refined manners and develop a much-matured outlook on life. Most educators have also noticed that students perform better in class when visual arts incorporated in their curriculum. Moreover, visual arts provide meaningful self-expression of all students.
A wide range of students often struggles to make academic and/or social progress and will require the supports or accommodations provided with inclusive programs. According to the evidence available, all children are said to benefit from the inclusive education program. Inclusion is beneficial for many reasons. It allows the students to develop newly established strengths with appropriate expectations for each of the students. The students also become able to work on individual goals while also participating in the classroom community with their peers.
Teachers need to look at their ELL students as individuals with background knowledge, a culture, and prior knowledge. The goal of bilingualism is to teach the student English while appreciating their native culture including their ability to speak, read and write in their home language. Students, who continue to develop their native language while acquiring the English language, learn the second language faster. In an article called the impact of Authentic Literacy Instruction on Adult Literacy practices shows that teaching adults to understand English as it correlates to their daily lives makes a significant difference. Where traditional practices in the classroom are helpful to some students, authentic learning practices such as role playing and mimicking real life situations to make connections for the adults helps many other students (Purcell-Gates Et all. 2002). These practices can be used everyday anywhere at any given time.
