My Ideas about How CLT Can Be Adapted for Use in China in Senior Middle School With the development of science and technology, gaining specific skills for a certain area is becoming more and more important. When talking something about the English language teaching in China, we think the problems in the traditional way of teaching English language is becoming more and more serious as in the traditional way of teaching English, the teacher is the center of the class and not only the students’ needs can not be satisfied but also their interests will be ignored. However, Communicative Language Teaching can solve the problems that exist in traditional teaching, improve students’ communicative competence and develop students’ other skills. In my point of view, CLT should be widely used in English language teaching in China, especially in Senior Middle School. Because for the students who learn English as a foreign language, Senior Middle School is a crucial period for everyone of them. As we all know, there are 12 principles included in language learning and teaching. In the following, I will use Meaningful Learning, Anticipation of Reward and Language-Culture Connection principles to illustrate my ideas. First of all, Meaningful Learning can be used to help Senior Middle School students to make meaningful associations between their existing knowledge or experience and new materials, which will surely contribute to the satisfaction of the students’ needs and the appealing of students’ interests. What is more, meaningful learning principle can also be used to create meaningful context to motivate students’ interest. With the use of meaningful learning principle in English reading and listening teaching, my English class will attract every student’s interest and attention in class.
