Climate change is a wide and broad topic. Each human being is affected or contributes to climate change. Over the years we have seen a major development in climate change, with the fluctuating temperatures especially in Western Canada. We have seen drier and hotter summers; mild and warmer winters as years go by. In this paper we will be exploring the contributing factors to this development and what the different causes are to climate change. Whether it being the famous El Nino effect or record-breaking temperatures, they all show the cause of climate change. Just this past summer it was recorded that Vancouver broke a 119-year-old record for temperatures in summer 2012. This shows that climate is growing rapidly and with these increasing and fluctuating temperatures we need to know why and what is the cause for them. Climate change is affected by many things; green house gas emissions, the human activity and solar irradiance to name a few. Over the years we have seen the change grow rapidly. Firstly the greenhouse gas emissions are the main cause of climate change. The five following gasses contribute to the greenhouse gas effect: Water Vapor, Carbon Dioxide (CO2), Methane, Nitrous Oxide, and Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs). Water Vapor is the most rich greenhouse gas. It increases as the Earth’s atmosphere warms which makes it the most feedback mechanisms to the green house effect. Carbon Dioxide is released through natural activities like volcano eruptions and human activities like deforestation and burning of fossil fuels. We have seen that humans have increased their atmospheric CO2 concentration by a third since the Industrial Revolution. Methane is a hydrocarbon gas, which is produced through natural sources and human activities such as decomposition of wastes in landfills and rice cultivation. Methane is a more active green house gas than CO2 but is less
