Classroom Reflection

It is crazy for me to think that I have been in Trinidad and Tobago for three weeks. Though I have been in the country for 21 days, I have only been exposed to the students for 10. As I reflect upon this past week’s activities, to be totally honest, I do not have much to say about my teaching experience and responsibilities inside of the classroom. This is because going into this second week with the children, procedures and expectations were still being established inside of the classroom by my Mentor Teacher. These procedures will be fully implemented inside of my classroom for Daily 5 and Café. This past week, my Mentor Teacher has really been focusing on the strategy how to read-to- self. Which, is one of the Daily 5. Since a majority of the students have most likely not been exposed to this strategy, there was a lot of time spent on modeling/demonstrating of procedures and expectations. Ms. Bednarek, would fist demonstrate how to read to self the correct and incorrect way. Then, the class would talk about what they saw. Next, she would have a student come up and demonstrate the correct/ incorrect way. Finally, the children would have the opportunity to practice what they discussed and saw. However, I do need to type everything out, edit, and make final revisions. Because I brought the context for learning sheet with me to the classroom, I was able to answer some of the questions during my free time at breaks. I found that the anecdotal notes used last week were helpful. I plan on continuing to use them. My next step, is to come up with a game plan for Task 1 and decided what learning segments I want to teach for literacy. I am hoping to get this done within the next week or so.
