Civil War Essay BY Vanessa Crow Dog The American Civil War is considered one of the most defining periods in American History. It was the most deadly conflict in American history, resulting in the deaths of 620,000 soldiers. Another reason it is studied so much is because Abraham Lincoln, who was the president at this time, abolished slavery with the defeat of the southern states. The war was a four year conflict between the federal government and the Confederate States of America. The Civil War started on February 9, 1861 when the Confederate States of America was formed, with Jefferson Davis was president. On March 4th of 1861, Abraham Lincoln was sworn in as the 16th president of the United States. The South considered slavery necessary
