Kingsley Civic Club Scholarship Many people say that high school is what makes them who they are and that it is the time of your life, and I must say that I fully agree with that. I have learned so much the past four years and I am glad that I have gotten that opportunity to do so. In my high school career I have had many great accomplishments, but I think the greatest would have to be donating blood, my soccer experience, and hosting an exchange student from Germany for a year. My first accomplishment that I have achieved in high school would be donating blood. Her name is Elena Roessle, but we called her Elli, and she came over from Germany in August 2010. My family and I got the wonderful chance to let her into our home and live the everyday American life. Elli and I instantly became best friends and we considered ourselves to be sisters. We have had some of the best memories like singing to every song off-pitch and really loud, watching the stars at night, and just laughing at everything when we were together. My family showed Elli many things we did as a family such as skiing every Friday night at Elk Mountain and Elli's least favorite was the "family bonding" we did every so often. That consisted of bringing wood into the house for the winter or splitting it for use later. Hosting such an awesome friend, let me experience German culture a little by her cooking, language, and how she acted until she got settled in completely. She showed me that even all the way across the world; people are very alike, no matter where they are from. I am glad that my family decided to be a host family because not a lot of families get to experience such a wonderful time, learn so much about a different culture, or make a life-long
