However, Rodney Bernan explains how white strips on bollards have been used to help those with poorer vision, in this case, preventing a psychical difference from becoming an inequality. Due to City Road catering for a wide selection of people, there is an unfair division of parking spaces and problems with traffic congestion. This affects local residents on a daily basis, as well as many outsiders travelling to use amenities within City Road. This results in “competition for the use of space...most obviously between pedestrians and vehicles” (Blakeley et al., 2009, p. 20). This also results in unlawful parking by non-residents due to shortage of space.
However, this is not always the case as cyclists seem to have their own rules. Although there are street signs indicating that cycling is not permitted during the shop opening hours, a proportion of them disregard this rule, making this one situation where the pedestrians no longer feel safe and secure. On City Road the cyclists use the road alongside other vehicles and appear to follow the rules, therefore, it would suggest that pedestrians in Cardiff feel safer. The pedestrians on City Road, also has the advantage of having islands to help cross the road safer with also different coloured tarmac, which defines the use for both drivers and walkers Lowestoft’s main street being pedestrianised is ideal for able and non able bodies equally. It is all evenly levelled and where the road meets the street, the pavement has a ridged texture to help make travel easier for the visually impaired.
Since being built, many residents of Hartville expressed issues in loudness, traffic, damaged and trashed areas, and out-of-control crowds that were promised to be maintained. Along with the physical issues at hand, many residents feel as if their voices are unheard, and that nothing is being done to fix these issues. In summary, the building of the Four Oaks Pavilion has created issue that were unforeseen by both Kramer Associates and the City. The people of Hartville feel as if no measures are being taken to resolve these issues, and that their voices aren’t being heard. Problems In facing these issues that surfaced from the construction of Four Oaks, we at Kramer Associates
With reference to what you have learnt about City Road, outline how material things contribute towards differences on a street which you know. The street i'm going to talk about is called Staveley Road in Wolverhampton in the West Midlands. It is a busy road that leads into the town centre,it has a mixture of shops and houses, two public houses a large playing field and a childrens playpark.it also has a mosque and a church. It has a diverse multiracial community and this is reflected in the range of shops and the people that use them. There is competition for space from both people and traffic and it's these differences which im going to talk about. Differences are produced in the making of society, made by peoples relation to eachother, things
Proposal (Funding Road Improvement) As with any larger city, the San Antonio roads are right up there with a lot of major traffic cities. As this area has a large number of vehicle owners, the population is constantly influenced by the media to include day to day transportation. With the large amounts of people in San Antonio area, traffic is always an issue. As a result, altering a few things here and there can be a life-changing experience during the traffic hour. When you are driving from point A to point B in San Antonio you are bound to run in to some really poorly constructed roads.
I feel that’s an inequality, because when people do not want to look after there area or things start going down hill instead of helping prevent it the problems get worse and people move away. The police and other authorities are helping to prevent it which is good but the people in the community need to see what’s happening and help. All these things add up and make a lot of little inequalities along City Road. In conclusion. I would say there are a number of inequalities that shape City Road, How it works and how the people work.
The High Street was once the main through road but since the arrival of the bypass in the 20th century it is not as busy as it once was. This produces less traffic throughout the town creating winners by reducing the volume and pollution but with the possible lack of business to local shops,
To come here not planning ahead and leaving early to get a good parking spot, you have to reside in parking lots, which can require a several minute walk to class. When it is winter time and it is cold, this is a miserable walk for most students. Large pedestrian walk ways and very many trees in the main lots is a use of valuable parking space for some students as well. Due to the long walk and large amount of space, it is common to feel unsafe and conscious of being far away from people. The help phones that are provided for safety and assistance are not as noticeable as they should.
Informal activities in particular have seen a downturn. However, they are ones that we as Americans, engage in most often. This downward slide applies to cities because of certain urban characteristics. The city, due to the division of labor, increases the tendency to discontinue involvement in community affairs because of other obligations. Also, neighborhoods in the city do not promote community or a distinct feeling of a belonging simply due to the mass population.
Road users are gasping for an answer to their query borne from their daily experience of unpleasant road travel as they journey from their point of origin to the point of their destination and vice-versa. The question of why there is traffic congestion? Some would answer that congestion is due to the lack of traffic law enforcer. Some would give kidding remark that the cause of the congestion is attributed to the traffic law enforcer posted at the intersection. Some would even argue that congestion is due to lack of discipline of those who use our public road system.
