English 101 George Orwell Report October 8, 2013 Civil Duties A Closer look at George Orwell’s “ Shooting an Elephant” Growing up in a third world country is quite difficult. Since you do not have much of anything, you will have to find happiness in the little things so to speak. For an example seeing an elephant around can bring some joy to you. You will never expect to seeing one of these gentle giant to go on a murderous rampage. If you ever see an elephant kill someone from your community and then the death of the majestic beast it will always be a black day in your past.
The play started off with “carnies” Heading to a town and setting up their circus. It continued with the circus, to a parade, to An elephant named Mary getting out of control due to a new rider to the hanging of Mary. Everything as kept in order. There was a background story though of human rights and The hanging of other people in the town too. The hidden message or background story Was that of people get hung in the town every day and no one makes a
On the contrary it is one of the most inhumane zoos in the world. The Bronx Zoo is known for its large space… and small enclosures. The Zoo is very large, boasting 265 square acres, but is known for its extremely small habitats for its animals, especially its elephants, ironically the largest animals there. The zoo has even put one of their elephants Happy, into solitary confinement for the rest of her life solely for the reason that she doesn't get along with the other two elephants at the zoo. That is no life for such an intelligent animal.
In the United States, there are over 30,000 mountain lions (“Basic facts”, 2014), which makes this cat the largest member of the cat family present in the country (“Mountain Lion”, 2014). However, the Florida panther is very endangered with less than 100 living mountain lions still roaming (“Basic facts”, 2014). In Colorado, there is a high mountain lion density with one cat for every eight square miles (Busch, 1996, p.46). This cat is found in typical mountain regions, swamps, and also
-Division A: The circus had attractions such as aerial artists, man-killing lions, gymnasts, giraffes, and trained elephants. -Division B: The circus claimed that Mary was the largest animal on Earth. -Evidence/Supporting Material: Mary was owned by Sparks World Famous Shows, a small traveling circus. She was featured prominently on advertisement posters: “Mary — the largest living land animal on Earth; 3 inches taller than Jumbo and weighing over 5 tons. A positive feature at each exhibition.” (Brown, “1916 Hanging Elephant Still Haunts Erwin, Tennessee,” 1999) -Transition/Internal Review: Now that you know a little about who Mary was and how she was employed, I am going to tell you the infamous story of how she came to be hanged.
The arm seemed stretching out longer end longer like a thick elastic, and the unfortunate monkey's mates were raising a terrible din. Weinstein said. The store, intended to be a less pricey version of his Dahne Weinstein jewelers in Green Spring Station swtor credits for sale in Lutherville, didn't lure enough customers, he said. "There just wasn't enough business," he said. Bob's Variety Store is many things to its customers, but in the spring, it is Mother's Day Central, with potted miniature roses, geraniums, lupines and daisies waiting to honor mothers.
In the novel by Sara Gruen, Water for Elephants, the major characters all face conflicts. For example, Uncle Al wrestles with the idea that his two-bit circus can make it as good as Ringlings', August struggles with his deep need for control, Marlena' conflict lies with her marriage to August and his disease, and Jacob's conflict is with August and his growing feelings for Marlena. But when the tent goes up and the audience fills the arena, the focus changes to there performances. Here's the only place where all charcters come together -- for the sake of the circus. Then there's Rosie the elepphant and the conflict she brings.
I’m not a writer, I’m a monkey! I’m supposed to be swinging on tree branches and digging up ants, not sitting under fluorescent lights ten hours a day (Ives 1635)! Similarly in the movie Office Space, the main character Peter cries, “Humans were not meant to sit in little cubicles starring at computer screens all day filling out useless forms and listening to eight different bosses drone on about mission statements”(Office). Mike Judge has experience directing actors in the movie Office Space who go through the same kind of frustrations the characters in the play experience. For this reason and others mentioned prior, I know he would be excellent at highlighting the satirical situations involved in Words, Words,
Women in Northern Uganda are constantly raped but they are never allowed to do an abortion when they became pregnant. Many of the children become homeless because they leave them in the streets (Elisabeth Schauer and Thomas Elbert). Due to these struggles in such young age, children are desperate for some identity. Groups like Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam use their past to make them join their group like they did for Ida. Psychological damage before even becoming a soldier due to their poor and unhealthy Many girls join Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam to protect themselves from economic hardships and rape but the military or any civil war groups cannot protect them from the dangers of their own country.
Right now, billions of animals are locked in small cages so that they can't even stretch their limbs, or turn around, or are crowded into large sheds, tens of thousands of them in each shed, unable ever to go outside or enjoy fresh air and sunshine. As an active member of PETA, I Boycott this inhumane system of production. I Don't buy factory farmed meat, eggs or dairy products. I buy as much local produce when can. I try to reduce my greenhouse gas emissions by using public transport, walking or riding
