Christmas Celebrations Christmas, one of the most important celebrations in Mexico. The celebration of this holiday is very important and significant to many people. Along with this holiday, there’s may celebrations along the way. Christmas celebrations stars nine days before, with the traditional “posadas”, and finishes 40 days after Christmas. As I mentioned before, some of the celebrations that come along the way are “Dia de los Reyes Magos” And “ Dia de la Candelaria”. These days are celebrated during the 40 day period. The “ Posadas” are a traditional religious holiday lasting nine days, starting from December 16th through Christmas Eve. It is a common tradition in Mexico and some other Central America countries. The “posadas” are a re-enacting of Joseph and Mary’s troubles during their trip to Bethlehem and finding a place where she could give birth. It consists of a group pf people going door by door singing traditional songs for the nine days. Each night the group visits three houses. The first two refuse shelter, but the third house will allow them in. After everyone has been let in, everyone recites the traditional Catholic Rosary prayers. Following that comes the delicious dinner. In this kind of parties, the traditional food consists of buñuelos, tamales and fruit punch. The most popular night of the celebration is the last one, on Christmas Eve. After the party is over, everyone attends Mass at midnight. It starts Christmas Eve attending church. January 6th is like another Christmas day for the Mexican kids.They receive a second round of gifts but now it said it’s been brought by “Los Reyes Magos”. This day is celebrated to by many Mexican families venerating the three wise man, Melchor , Gaspar, and Baltazar, who following the star to Bethlehem, arrived bearing their treasured gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh for the Baby Jesus.
