Christina had just joined Western Union a year ago in May 2002. She main agenda was to unify the company’s U.S. business with its global divisions. To attain this goal of making the company operate as a single entity, Christina proposed a change from a U.S. centric production line. Gold proposed a focus to a regional organization with three main divisions. These divisions are: Asia-Pacific; the Americas and Europe, Africa, the Middle East and South Asia. This structure sent a clear message that he wanted a new kind of global structure. The restructuring of Western Union was important because it would help the Company bring services to the market more efficiently. The second reason for restructuring was to manage redundancy at the management echelon. The third reason was to make their brand more common in the market and across the globe. The forth reason was to establish the monetary infrastructure to place financial decision making in the correct places. One more reason was for information and communication technology to take control of many of the company’s platforms. This would enable human resources to have the capacity to take talents around the world. It was evident that with the Company’s United States centric the Company would not be able to attain these goals. Thus, restructuring the Company was a must. In the world today businesses have to be insightful to the cultures of the regions where there businesses operate. This is because each people’s needs are different, and the business leaders have to be attentive and elastic enough to work with each people effectively.
