Little Britches Nathaniel Stone 9/7/13 The book Little Britches is an autobiography written by Ralph Moody; Ralph was the oldest child in a family of five children and his parents were Charles and Molly Moody. They moved from East Rochester New Hampshire to Colorado in hopes that Charles’ failing health would improve. They began to cultivate the land on the ranch they had purchased but the house was little more than a shack. Despite this they worked hard at improving it and when hard times came around they were some of the only people in their area not feeling the worst of it. The most prominent character quality of Ralph’s life was that he was generous; he loved to help build and help his family move along even when he was just 9 years old. He was also an eager learner and because of this he learned many useful talents such as how to ride a horse and how to shoot. (pg.222) he could also be very sneaky and deceitful at times as well (see pg. 154) but for most of this period in his life he was honest and felt bad when he did something wrong. Another good character trait was that he was extremely ambitious usually he would pick out tasks that carried a significant amount of weight sometimes even he could not complete them. He was also very obedient to his parents even if it meant that he might miss out on something or if he might get hurt. (pg. 36) After all the problems that he had to face, he obtained a very tough character and learned to work together with his family. One of his most Christian traits was that he was a very giving and generous. He also was a generally forgiving and he would often never repeat a mistake. With exceptions Ralph was honest but there were of course times when he did lie.
