Christian and Wiccan Religions Comparative Religions Professor: Amanda Bartells November 5, 2013 There are a vast number of different religions in today’s world. For the purpose of this report I will be discussing some of the elements of the Christian and Wiccan religions. Christian Beliefs Though” there are many important differences of interpretation and opinion of the Bible”, on which Christianity is based, Christians share a set of beliefs that they hold as essential to their faith. The central tenet of Christianity is the belief that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, the Messiah. Christians believe that Jesus was anointed by God as the savior of humanity, and they believe that Jesus' coming was the fulfillment of messianic prophecies of the Old Testament. The core Christian belief is that through belief in, and acceptance of, the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, sinful humans can be reconciled to God, and thereby are offered salvation, and the promise of eternal life. Christians generally believe that Jesus is God incarnate, the "true God and true man". Jesus, having become fully human, suffered the pains and temptations of a mortal man, but he did not sin. As fully God, he rose to life again. According to the Bible, "God raised him from the dead. He ascended to heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father". Christians believe that Jesus will ultimately return to fulfill the rest of Messianic prophecy, namely the Resurrection of the dead, and the Last Judgment day. The Ten Commandments are a set of biblical principles relating to ethics and worship which play a fundamental role in most forms of Christianity. The 10 Commandments include instructions to worship only God, to keep the Sabbath holy, and prohibitions against idolatry, blasphemy, murder, theft, and adultery.
