Autobiography of a Recovering Skinhead: The Frank Meeink Story A Critical analysis of Christian Identity Theory Rex W. Winters Cerro Coso Community College Abstract This paper examines Christian Identity Theory (Identity) and how skinheads like Frank Meeink use its’ concept as reinforcement of their racist ideals and to justify their violent acts upon anyone who they consider not of the Aryan Race. It will explore the beginnings of Identity as British-Israelism, examine Biblical lore and historical data and theories supporting and denying the theoretical scheme of Identity, how it became known as Christian Identity, the adoption of Identity’s premise by White Supremacists such as the Ku Klux Klan (KKK), Aryan Nations, and Skinheads, and how it lends to the racist ideals of those White supremacists. Referred to as Identity, this obscure theory is the basis that most White Supremacist groups use to justify their racist and violent treatment of anyone they consider to be of the “Mud Peoples.” In his senior seminary paper, Jonathan F. Sullivan, the director of catechetical services for the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois, states that “Christian Identity is a religious ideology popular in extreme right-wing circles. Adherents believe that whites of European descent can be traced back to the “Lost Tribes of Israel.” Simply stated, Identity is the belief that Aryan’s are the true Israelites, direct descendants of Adam and Eve.
