Into The Wild Essay In the book “Into The Wild” we come across a young man named Chris McCandless who leaves everything behind so he can live in the wild of Antarctica. Then we have a guy Shaun Callarman who states “Chris had no common sense, and made a lot of mistakes”. I want to qualify with Callarmans point of view about Chris McCandlees, he was just a guy who was smart but lived a controlling life. He went to the wilderness to find his inner self, true he didn’t have common sense but he was smart enough to know what he wanted to do with his life. Chris wasn’t crazy; he had a father that wanted to make Chris his own image. When Chris was traveling he found out “Walt continued his relationship with Marcia in secret”(121). This crushed Chris which could be one of the reasons he went on his trip. Chris is a smart kid but finding out you have been lied to for part of your life can hurt you to! When Chris graduated from college he “donated all the money in his college fund to OXFAM America a charity dedicated to fighting hunger, twenty four thousand remained at the time of Chris’s graduation”(20). Chris was a good guy and wanted to help people so he donated all his money to Oxfam to help people because he didn’t need it. He also didn’t want to follow his dads controlling…show more content…
His dad was controlling and lied to Chris for half his life, now Chris’s dad Walt is more kind due to the loss of his son. McCandless did what he wanted to do and died of starvation, true that was a big mistake not bringing enough food but he couldn’t get more, instead of calling him crazy we should call him a philosopher. Thanks to McCandless we learn how hard life is and what happens when you’re pressured. What we all need to do is live life how we want and not be controlled by others. McCandless died doing what he loved to do and not how people wanted him to live. Does that sound like a crazy guy to
