The Telegraph newspaper made a study that shows that between 20% and 40% of college students in the United States enter their first year undecided. Choosing a major is arguably the most important decision students will make in college, especially because it can affect their career choices after graduation. For many students it is difficult to choose their major. Thus, the best steps that guarantee you will choose your right major are by following your dreams, and asking a counselor. First you should major in subject areas that interest and feel passionate about it; consequently, it will make you engage fully with the material you are learning and marketable in a competitive workforce. Beside you should learn who you are, what you love, and where you find yourself good at. Also parents should not interfere and force you to choose a major you don’t like. Even if the you don’t know what you want to be, you can still determine your skills and interest by looking at your academic history, especially in the challenging and comprehensive classes in which you perform well. Moreover you may also reflect on your past experiences, jobs you’ve done to determine your major. Hence you should be wise and patience while you are choosing your major. However, following your dream is not enough to guarantee for you to choose your perfect major. In addition, you might also take the advice of your school’s career development department to help you get on the right if you are still undecided about a college major. Much such department provides assessment tools to help you find a major that synthesize your interests and skills. Also they help you to identify what you like because the advisors have dealt with many students before, so they have a good experience in that domain.
