While this book has some weaknesses in helping you select the direction you should go in, it is superb in helping you pursue your goals once they are set. The early chapters of the book focused on creating awareness to the idea that being truly successfully results from choosing a job that sparks passion, risk, and excitement in life. Combs gave excellent advice in aiding students to find what they are truly passionate about. While reading the sections that included reader interaction, such as pulling out a pen and jotting
If you are uncertain about the answers, take some time to reflect or make a couple of phone calls to an old friend. Recalling memories can also make old talents you once enjoyed resurface and can clarify where your career focus was and where it is going. An advantage that a person returning to college has is that life experience has taught us skills that although not necessarily spelled out in an academic achievement award, but will allow us to make a more conscious tailored decision when it comes to choosing a major or career path. Gather documents like old transcripts and any work that may shed light on where you were in your mind in the former years. Consider that you may have chosen a major based on factors that are no longer
Widespread use of external sources and advisors e.g. customers on planning teams. It’s very important on free exchange and flow of information, systems are in place to ensure that expertise is available where it is needed; individuals network extensively, crossing organisational boundaries to develop their knowledge and expertise. It is also a Commitment to learning, personal development to support from top management; people at all levels encouraged to learn regularly; learning is rewarded. Time to think and learn (understanding, exploring, reflecting, developing).
You also have to know your purpose of attending college and what you want out of it. And making a commitment to achieve your goals is important, you got to have you priorities straight. When it college you should be organized and on a schedule. Set up a weekly schedule with your class times, and when your going to sit and down your school work. Being organized will help you stay focus and use your time wisely.
In my theory, an effective teacher must also be willing to change and adapt lesson plans based on the needs of the students. This requires good decision-making skills so that a teacher can chose what is best for the student and that will reap the most rewards. Test-taking is also important to this theory because tests must be appropriate for all learners. If we want students to pass, we must create test that are fair to each student and allows for strengths to be shown on the
For a student to effectively foster reading retention they should learn to take great notes. This skill is one that every student should master. Personality and learning styles are probably two of the biggest keys to academic success. A person’s personality will either make or break their success. If a person is determined, strong willed and always positive, they do not want failure in their life.
This framework was provided in chapter I by Theoharis (2009), and is essential in sifting out bad practices, attitudes, established rules and guidelines, racism, and discrimination. These practices must be all inclusive to welcome my colleagues ideas for change to intently make an impact in our students academic studies. Accepting positive and negative feedback from my colleagues without becoming upset or defensive, is in the best interest of our students success. Interchanging of ideas amongst my colleagues will create a network of talent, respect, and effective
I also enrolled to help me determine if I want to join the Air force, and I know if I do wish to join the Air force I would need all the values and qualities that JROTC teaches to their students. I’m also trying to surround myself with positive peer pressure rather than negative peer pressure. I look forward to this class because I know that it is going to be very challenging and demanding. The class should help me to focus better on my education and life. You need structure to keep things in order and to keep chaos down.
“By tying grades to money, we give students incentives not to take risks” (Vogel, 392) that stop them from choosing challenging courses in college. Students find easier courses through word of mouth or websites that previous students rate their professor in. I always ask people who previously took the course I am interested in whether or not I have a chance of passing the course with a C or higher. Students are afraid of putting their grade point average at risk because the grade point average is a component of the application process that helps colleges decide who to accept. .
There is another choice, with a college education we can study and obtain an education in a field that we are most interested in without having to take the lower road. A way to help promote this idea is to set goals for yourself in the present and for the new you in the future. Goals help many people achieve what they want in life. The importance of goals is to give one the assurance and the strength to know that they have accomplished something of great importance to themselves. Without setting goals most people would not pursue their dreams because they see no reward in the end for having to go through some hard times.
