CHILDHOOD IN CRISIS Comprehension Assignment “If you carry your childhood with you, you never become older.” (Stoppard.T, 1937) Man passes through many stages of life since he is born until he dies. Childhood is the formative period of life in which the character of man gets shaped. At this stage men's mind is soft, receptive and plastic just like the potter's clay. In his childhood, man gets deep and lasting impressions that affect him throughout his life. These are the golden days of life when world is a place of happiness and pleasure. There are no worries, tensions and burden of responsibilities. In the present system of society and education, nobody takes the responsibility of the child's wellbeing. Parents think that it is the responsibility of the teachers, because child stays in the school for six hours a day. While teachers are of the view that it is the duty of the parents, because the children belong to their parents, and in future the children will come to any use only to their parents and families. (Swain.R, n.d, retrieved from ) As nobody is much concerned about the children thinking and attitude, the levels of depression and antisocial behavior in children have increased dramatically in modern societies. This situation has led people to believe that childhood itself is in crisis. The reasons for this are discussed in the upcoming paragraphs. The first reason I should mention is a child’s personal relations especially with the parents. In the near past there was a very good tradition of family mealtimes.
