Collins was drafted and hired for the same reason, to restore the winning tradition of the franchise. Collins was a very successful player for the 76ers, but due to injuries was forced to retire the summer before the title won in 1983. Collins is considered one of the best coaches, however there are certain aspects of his coaching style I disagree with. For example, Jrue Holiday should not have been named the point guard because the position doesn’t fit his capabilities. He wants to be known for making the big plays, instead of distributing the basketball to his teammates.
So they all gathered as a family one day and decided to ask Michael if he was okay and that if he wanted to join the family, Michael was slightly confused because he already thought he was part of the family, they were all happy. Michael started playing football but he wasn’t as successful Coach Burt expected him to be that’s when Leigh Anne intervened and told him to defend his team as he would defend her and the family. He soon understood and started to play way better. S.J. soon intervened by making Michael practice and exercise everyday.
Their starting line up consists of two seniors, two juniors, and one sophomore, all who were part of the championship team last year. This experienced combination of players will be a lethal hit to any team that is in their way. Russ Smith is the driving force that propels this team. He has all the skills it takes to keep the team together and has helped amass such a great run at the end of their season, with a 42-point outbreak against Houston two weeks earlier. The Louisville Cardinals are not going down this year; they will fly all the way to the top.
When I first started playing sports it was it was all for fun until I found the sports I truly loved and was serious about them. The first sport I ever tried was when I was 4, I did gymnastics. I loved it so much and I would watch the older girls hoping that would be me one day. I only did it for 2 years though because the place I went to moved somewhere else so I stopped. I won a medal in floor and this first got me going with competition.
Now we can add Michael Jordan name to the list of players I just named. Jordan is being inducted into the Hall of Fame today due to his great basketball skills on the court and all of the things he accomplished in fifteen seasons in the NBA. As a child Jordan basketball career had some ups and downs. According to ESPN, “during his sophomore year at Laney, a 5’9 Michael Jordan tried out for the basketball team. He was passed over for the final spot on the varsity team.” He took that as motivation and dominated on the junior varsity team.
Our opponent was against Diablo Vista. We all had butterflies in our stomach. Before the game I got the players in a huddle and told them, “Whether we win or lose isn’t as important as the camaraderie I have seen between you guys over the last couple of weeks and I am honored to be able to coach you gentlemen.” Coaching basketball was not easy for my but in the end my perseverance paid off. Not only did I learn how to earn the children’s trust and how to be a mentor but I also learned something about learning. I am not nearly as nervous anymore when put in a new environment.
He was the only division one player to be in the top ten for almost every stat. He Senior year, he was finalists for many of the basketball awards, and landed on the All-Ivy First team. Sadly he went unnoticed and undrafted. That didn't stop him, he continued to work hard until he was picked up by the Maverics for summer-league. Although he didn't make it on to the Maverics team, he was picked up from the free agency by the Golden-State Warriors.
That is when I started to develop the love for basketball. I wanted to be like Magic Johnson his approach to the game was smooth. He was very fundamental and he knew how to control the game. I played basketball all four years of my high school career and I loved every bit of it. When I had free time I would volunteer at the community to coach a youth 11-12 years old basketball team.
I began fourth grade at Valley Creek Intermediate School, in August of 2002. That very same year, I dedicated most of my time to our small basketball team. I had some of the most enjoyable years of my life on the basketball court with our team, the Lady Wildcats. I entered my seventh grade year, which was my last in middle school, dreading the change to high school. I can’t really remember how I felt towards the end of that school year, but one thing I know for sure is I couldn’t wait to take on high school with all my childhood classmates by my side.
Being around other basketball players is where I feel at home. Shooting around with my team or just friends in general is something I always look forward to. The court is what I would call my community, the time spent with other players and the love we all share for this particular game is why I consider it my community. We can play for hours at a time. We have all faced our difficult moments on and off the court, but it is when we are all together working hard for that win I am most proud.
