Have fun with children. Let them play and be themselves, it’s OK! Many people think “what are children learning through play?” try it and you will see. You will see that children learn most of what they know through play. I’m not talking about planned out play.
Cognitive skills can be developed using hands-on activities allowing children explore, problem solve, and satisfy their curiosities. Ask the children what kind of ideas they have, this will make it their own idea and may be more interesting for them. When reading stories, show them the pictures, and then ask open-ended questions. Provide a quiet space for a child to look at a book or work a puzzle; sometimes a child needs quiet separation from the other children. Develop verbal communication through talking, story time, word games, and songs.
It is a way of transforming things using media and materials such as paint, scissors, words, sounds, movement and props. Your child may response to what they see, hear and experience through their senses and use their experience through role play and other creativity activities.Creative development covers all the areas of holistic development.Holistic development is all the areas of development like emotional,intellectual,social and physical.There are activities that are considered to be creative and you many not realise it like drawing, cooking,painting,play-dough, cutting and sticking,singing,dancing and makinh patterns in the sand. Educators can combine activities to help with both the physical and mental development. Children love to play. Their play lets them explore, experiment, and work on mastering the beginnings of literacy, numeracy, and science. During play they are talking to each other and playing together so their social skills are being developed as well. The behaviors of children’s play already have activities that include some sort movement like finger play, movement games, or building blocks.
This type of play is excellent for developing language and for expressing feelings. Games: When children play games they learn to take turns and communicate with each other. They express how they feel about what the other child has to do or did and sometimes they try to support the other child if they think they do not understand the game and it’s a great way for them to develop their communication. Their vocabulary will improve. Pictures: Pictures are used alongside words to make communication more easier and understandable.
In a nursery children will engage in numerous types of play, one of those types of play is pretend play, ’Pretend play is where children talk to toys or objects and make up games using characters’ (P.Tassoni,(2007) page 160). For some children this was the first time for them to paint so I have to show them how and where to paint with others it was more about controlling their excitement and teaching them how to control and maintain their motions. I enjoy observing them making options and see their visual input. This type of activities allows them to feel free of learning and exploring and how to be creative whiles been messy. Learning is fun. This could be in the form of painting, drawing, collage, music, dance, woodwork, model making, sand and water with small world scenarios and miniature garden scenarios.
When he was 3 years old, my child enjoyed fantasy play and tended to enact scenes with his toy animals and cartoon figures. My partner and I joined in when asked, and had a good time with him making up little dramas involving the plastic figures. Make-believe play not only reflects but also contributes to children’s cognitive and social skills. This kind of play increases sociodramatic play with others, draw more attention to an activity, and become more cooperative. When my child was 4 years old, my partner and I tried to expose him to all types of activities, regardless of gender-appropriateness.
