I also keep the area where the play structure is, free of any toys to prevent tripping hazards. Whenever children are on the play structure, I make sure I am always within an arm’s reach, to try and prevent any accidents. Before returning indoors, I always do a head count, counting from front to back and back to front. Functional Area 2: Healthy Keeping children healthy is one of the most important jobs as being a role model. Washing their hands is the best way to prevent germs from spreading.
Competency Goal I To establish and maintain a safe and healthy learning environment. My goal is to provide a safe environment for all children in my care by never leaving them unattended. Indoor and outdoor areas should be free of dangerous conditions and materials. It is important to check all electrical sockets and make sure they are all covered. Providing working smoke detectors and fire extinguishers in proper locations and having the knowledge to properly use them is crucial to a child’s safety.
All accidents should be reported to the person in charge and dealt with immediately by the designated first aider, ensuring personal protective is worn. Any hazards should be reported to the head, the bursar or site manager. No running in the hall, corridors or on staircases and all children are permitted to walk on the left hand side of stairs. Children are regularly informed and kept up to date with fire expectations and there is a separate Fire Safety Policy available. Total ban of smoking
I should wear Personal Protective equipment, (PPE) gloves, masks, lab coats and safety goggles. I should not have any loose clothing or hair. I will keep my area clean and free of unused chemicals and equipment. I will properly dispose of all supplies and containers. Use proper ventilation while performing my labs.
I keep up to date my first aid and that I have a fully stocked first aid box. I make sure accident forms are completed in the event of an accident occurring and that all parents are fully informed, who then sign any forms that need to be filled out. Working with children brings significant duty of care, and younger and more vulnerable the child, the greater the duty of care 1.2 By ensuring risk assessments are being carried out within a setting, also to make sure all equipment and toys are safe, and cater for the appropriate age. By making sure there are no hazards like cleaning materials being left out and all electrical sockets are not being left uncovered, this is to protect any harm to children and young people in my setting. Ensuring the setting is always clean to stop the spread of infection.
Here are the steps in my fire escape plan. Step one is for all teachers to get their students lined up in an orderly fashion. Step two is for teachers to grab their emergency kit containing their classroom roll. Step three is to direct their class through their routes and exits. A way to improve the exits is by using science.

There are always going to be rules for the safety of the class and dance classes are no exception. When I teach Kizomba, I need to first create a safe place for my classes. Health and Safety rules are covered by the risk assessment done on arrival, i.e. clear floor space, no obstructions, clean toilet facilities etc. I would also establish a system whereby my students complete a record card or form detailing name, contact information and any other relevant information such as medical needs.
