Child Protection Conference Essay Within this essay, an extensive reflection on the case conference will be established, based on the Gibbs (1988) ‘model of reflection’ as a guide; this entails description, feelings/thoughts, evaluation, analysis, conclusion and an action plan. Firstly, I will talk about the conference and my role within it, I will then reflect on my role within the conference; looking at both my strengths and weaknesses in order to identify ways in which I could have improved. I will talk about how I felt about the conference, what was carried out in terms of preparation, my thoughts on the decision process and what I would do differently. The Case Conference was very nerve racking, due to being unsure of what to expect and not being sure if the work that was done was to the right standard. However it was interesting to experience the flow of a case conference, what it involved and the role each professional had. It was also clear that professionals needed to do a vast amount of research and preparation for the conference, which is helpful in getting a better understanding of the different roles and how they work with the family and other professionals. The decision making process gives all professionals a chance to bring forward the information they have and what they think should happen with the children. All the professionals in the conference made a vote on whether the mother should keep her children or whether the children should be taken into emergency protection. Emergency protection is ‘removing a child quickly from a setting where he or she is in immediate and serious danger’ (Murray and Gough, 1991 p:78) This is under the Children Act 1989.
