Childhood obesity Dennis Lolley ENG 122: English Composition II Annemarie Hamlin October 16, 2011 Childhood obesity is something that we are beginning to see everyday growing in America. Everyday more and more children are suffering from obesity. Approximately 17% (or 12.5 million) of children and adolescents ages 2 through 19 years old are obese. (Data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey) If we are to ever win the battle against obesity then we need to be educating and laying down the facts for the children of the future. With the right diet and exercise we can overcome obesity. Environmental influences such as a good diet plan and exercise can get rid of obesity for children and adults. Human genetics do have an affect on our life when it comes to obesity, whether that can be a positive thing or negative thing is up to that individual. I will point out that just because some people have bad genetics that doesn’t mean they can never have a healthy life and be in great shape for that matter. There can be some things that we can’t control that cause weight gain. One example would be a mother that just recently gave birth to her child and now the female suffers from excess weight gain and also slows down that individual’s metabolism to the point where they have a hard time getting the fat loss down. The specific claim that I want to argue is that if a person whether that be a child or a adult, does right and has a good diet and exercises on a regular basis then that person should not have a problem losing weight and obesity shouldn’t be a factor for them at all. Keeping that in mind we must remember that we can’t all have that supermodel body.
