Effective preschool classrooms are places where children feel well cared for and safe. They are places where children are valued as individuals and where their needs for attention, approval, and affection are supported. They are also places where children can be helped to acquire a strong foundation in the knowledge and skills needed for school success. Research shows beyond question that it is through having many opportunities to talk as well as to listen to teachers and peers that children gain language skills so valuable for their success in reading and writing. The more children know about their world, the easier it is for them to read and learn when they get to school.
Effective teachers strive to motivate and engage all their students in learning, believing every student is capable of achieving success at school and they do all they can to find ways of making each student successful. They personalize the learning for their students and uses techniques that have each student working on tasks that engage and challenge them to achieve their personal best. Teachers have a repertoire of effective teaching strategies and use them to implement well designed teaching programs and lessons. (AITSL (a), 2012). Planning influences what student will learn, because planning can transform the available time and curriculum materials into activities, assignments and tasks for students so time is the essence of planning.
Good communication skills are essential for early childhood educators. Classroom communication can be defined as a process of information shared that consists of verbal and nonverbal transactions between teacher and students, or between and among students, in a classroom setting (Kearns, 2012, p.33). Everyone has a role to play in keeping a positive environment for children but the most important people are the parents. Starting children early with a positive learning environment can be a big factor in their lives. Organizing a positive learning for children will teach them how to become successful students in school. Everything that is done at home, by the parents, can be taken to school and used to promote learning for their child.
I believe that each child is a unique individual and that all children can learn. Children will be encouraged to learn and grow by providing a foundation of developmentally appropriate experiences where all children can succeed in a safe and nurturing environment. Educating young children has always been an exciting career for me. Volunteering in the classroom is another way the parent can be involved with their children. ‘Getting communication with parents in early years settings right, is one of the most important aspects of working with young children. If it is done well, then children, their families and the organisation will flourish. Researchers found that the most effective settings, shared child-related information between parents and practitioners, often involving parents in decisions about their child's learning’. It is crucial to have good communication as it is used everyday in the Early Years Setting to convey information, receive important information, instruct, persuade, request, teach, develop and much more.
This point has been supported by evidence derived from numerous publications, which suggest that parents generally know their child the best, and are the main educator in the child’s life (Essa, 2007). Thus it is imperative that early learning practitioners use their role to encourage parents to be involved in their child’s learning, which can help to increase self-confidence in parenting and support feelings of belonging and inclusion in their child’s development. The organs perform functions vital to the well being of the body as a whole, so the family meets some of society’s vital needs, for example, the need to socialise children. Educating children is of great importance to the family. It prepares them for the working world that they will one day be entering in to which will determine a great part of their life, and also teaches them of fundamental skills and essential values of society, including the structure of society. Family values are used to integrate children into school, for instance a child will learn what is sociably acceptable with their manners and they way they react to certain situations. Without the family integrating the child into this way of life, the child will likely act in ways which others will see as socially improper.
