The pageant moms pay hundreds of dollars to have the “best of the best” spray their child down with a can of orange spray paint. As any toddler would, the princesses usually scream and pout and resist all attempts at being hosed down until their mothers promise them a brand new pony after it’s all over. After having their skin damaged beyond repair from the chemicals of a spray tan, they move on to their nails. The whole family joins the beauty queen in receiving her full spa treatment complete with manicure, pedicure and massage. I mean how could we expect a four year old to deal with the stress of a pageant without a full body massage?

Schechter is also a strong feminist who in turn doesn’t believe the princess culture is bad for girls but is a stage that they go through. Peggy Orenstein is a feminist who believes little girls that believe in the princess culture and enjoy dressing up and pretending to be princesses are falling into gender stereotypes at a very young age. Orenstein, in her article seems to go through a journey, in which, she comes to this conclusion. Both Schechter and Orenstein are well known feminist who share almost exact opposite views on the princess culture idea and how it affects young women and children. Although Schechter and Orenstein seem to share these similar feministic views on princess culture, it may seem to be that Schechter carries a more liberal, open minded view on princess culture and Orenstein has a more radical closed minded view on princess culture.
It all begins with a young girl being born into the world of judgment. Children believe everything they are told. If they are told they are beautiful, they will believe it until someone tells them otherwise. Young girls are impressionable by their mother’s and female counter part’s actions, such as wearing fancy clothes and putting on make-up. In the poem, the speaker states the girlchild has “wee lipsticks the color of cherry candy” (4), showing that she already wants to alter her appearance.
Toddler’s and Tiara’s on TLC, Television Learning Channel, is a prime example of child exploitation. It primarily shows little girls, age 18 months to early teens, parading in scandalous outfits while the parents are cheering on. Is there something wrong with this picture? ALICIA ALONSO Cuba is known for Castro, Cuban cigars, and communism. But thanks to the talent of Alicia Alonso, it is also a world-renowned center for ballet. When Alonso was born in the early 1920s there was no ballet school or professional company in Cuba. Instead she traveled to New York City, Russia, Spain, and Monte Carlo to dance, eventually becoming arguably the most popular and admired ballerina in the 20th Century. Despite a lifelong struggle with failing vision and the political conspiracy that have defined post-revolutionary Cuba, Alonso returned to her beloved land and founded the Ballet Nacional de Cuba and created the island's first dance school.
Better remembered as Hannah Montana, Miley continued her acting and singing career away from The Disney Channel. Although Miley Cyrus maintains the same singing and acting abilities; her image has dramatically changed over the years influencing today’s society. Hannah Montana was a popular show in which a normal teenager girl, Miley, would transform into world renown pop-sensation Hannah Montana by night. Miley played Hannah Montana on and off the air, traveling across the globe wearing a blonde wig, performing in front of millions of young girls who were crazy for her. Miley sang songs which related to girls ages 12 and younger.
She later changed her name to Fanny Brice and got her first professional job in the chorus of The Talk of the Town but ironicely she got fired during rehearsals by the big current star George M. Cohen. Young Fanny was a strong fighter and didn't give up her dream of entertaining. She then finally landed a spot in The Trans-atlantic Burlesquers where she did an Irving Berlin song, "Sadie Salome, Go Home." She did this in a Yiddish dialect seeing that she looked the way she did. Although she was not Jewish, she quoted " In anything Jewish I ever did, I wasn't standing apart making fun.
The dentist asked her daughter if she wanted to sit in the “special princess throne.”She then goes on about other times the princess label has been put on her daughter and about her frustrations with these situations. Then, her daughter asks what’s wrong with princesses? She makes references to real life princesses, and also she talked about the princess trend that has swept across the nation. She states her strong feminist beliefs and questions “what playing Little Mermaid is teaching her [daughter] (Orenstein 671).” She then briefly acknowledges the counterargument and moves on to discussing the start and instant success of Disney’s princess products. She quotes the founder of the princess products, Andy Mooney, when he says that boys pass through phases and so will girls with the princess phase.
During the birthday party Luciana’s mother Senora Ines had been told Rosaura to do all the works such as: serve the cake, and hot dogs to the guests at the party. She loved the tasks that Senora Ins gives her without comprehending that she is using her to do all the works. The class difference between the little girl Rosaura is shown through the indication of a magician’s monkey at the party, which was a surprise to the guests. Somehow Rosaura got to see the monkey ahead of time. Which indicate us the fact that Rosaura is separated from the rest of the guests at the party because she is not as prosperous as others and she is the daughter of the maid.
