Being from Chicago, Illinois, it was a rather easy decision to choose which piece of architecture to write about the Chicago Picasso. The first monumental modern sculpture to be placed in the Loop is this sculpture, now called the "Picasso". The Chicago Picasso in Daley Plaza is much more than just artwork to Chicagoans. The untitled Picasso sculpture that originally sparked controversy in the city has now become one of Chicago’s most famous sculptures and beloved icons.
The piece of art that will be described is a sculpture of the artist Pablo Picasso and it is called the Chicago Picasso or just called “The Picasso”. The artist hasn’t given any name to it and that is why it is called this way. Pablo Picasso is considered one of the best artists in the 20th century. He was a Spanish painter who also was a sculptor. He was a very influential artist and was well known throughout the 20th century. Pablo Picasso has influenced the art world in three ways: his life, his artwork, and the famous Cubist movement.
Chicago Picasso is a sculpture that was created in Chicago, which is why the city’s name appears in the title of the piece of art. This sculpture was presented to the public in Daley Plaza from Chicago, Illinois on August 15, 1967. The steel sculpture is 50 feet tall, 162 lbs., and was made by U.S. Steel in Gary, Indiana. Also, there is a little story how this monumental sculpture came to life.
The Picasso sculpture was placed in Daley Plaza in 1967. It was commissioned in 1963 by the architects of the Richard J Daley Center. Picasso produced a Marquette of the sculpture in 1965 and gave for approval a final version the following year. Then the American Bridge Company fabricated the sculpture in Indiana, disassembled it and reassembled in Chicago. This work of art is not
