Ivy M. Galamiton BSCHE 1 What is engineering? The practical application of sciences and mathematics, as in the design of structures, roads, and systems. Fields of Engineering: * Chemical engineering comprises the application of physical and biological sciences to the process of converting raw materials or chemicals into more useful or valuable forms. * Civil engineering comprises the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and natural built environments. * Electrical engineering comprises the study and application of electricity, electronics and electromagnetism. * Mechanical engineering comprises the design, analysis and usage of heat and mechanical power for the operation of machines and mechanical systems. * Systems engineering is an interdisciplinary field of engineering that focuses on how to design and manage complex engineering projects over their life cycles. Issues such as reliability, logistics, and coordination of different teams (requirements management), evaluation measurements, and other disciplines become more difficult when dealing with large or complex projects. * Electronics engineering, or electronic engineering, is an engineering discipline where non-linear and active electrical components such as electron tubes, and semiconductor devices, especially transistors, diodes and integrated circuits, are utilized to design electronic circuits, devices and systems, typically also including passive electrical components and based on printed circuit boards. * Nuclear engineering is the branch of engineering concerned with the application of the breakdown (fission) as well as the fusion of atomic nuclei and/or the application of other sub-atomic physics, based on the principles of nuclear physics. In the sub-field of nuclear fission, it particularly includes the interaction and maintenance of systems and components like
