Cain uses inductive reasoning when she quotes “According to the U.S Census Bureau, in 1993 there were 34.9 million American families that were childless and only 33.3 million families with a child under the age of 18 (488).” Cain uses this example to prove to the reader that there has been a dramatic increase in the number of childless women over the past 30 years. Cain also uses deductive reasoning throughout her essay. For example, Cain quotes David Pearce Snyder from The Futurist Magazine “Our reasons for having children have changed over time. Whereas in earlier days children were needed to support a family, social safety nets have taken care of those needs (489).” By quoting another person, Cain shows the reader that the principle of her claim is also accepted by other people. Cain convinces the reader that not only she believes what she is arguing, but others also believe the same
The government is allowing immigrants to enter the country with less than satisfactory education skills. Nearly 31 percent of foreign born residents over the age of twenty-five are without a high school diploma, compared to just 10 percent of native-born residents. Immigrants trail behind natives in college attendance. It wouldn’t make sense to grant permanent legal status and full job market to millions of unskilled immigrants. Journalist Sonia Nazario states, “Those harderst hit by the influx of immigrants are disadvantaged native-born minorities who don’t have a high school degree”(536).
The decline of workers contributing to Social Security means there will be less benefits that will be replaced. Currently the Baby boomers have the highest labor force participation of any generations in American history. (Crain, 2006) The generations following the Baby Boomer generation will not have the numbers to replace the Baby Boomers place in the workforce. According to Crain (2006) nearly 90% of the Baby Boomer generation works, which is over half of the entire workforce in the nation. About 80% of female Baby Boomers worked which was also a contribution to the two income family.
Those at highest risk of teen pregnancy are girls from single parent homes, families with low socioeconomic status, and girls with a sister who became pregnant as a teenager (Talashek, Alba, & Patel, 2006). A significant risk factor identified by the National Center for the Prevention of Teenage Pregnancy (NCPTP) is that 75% of pregnant teens have mothers who were also pregnant as a teenager (VanLenten, 200?). The lifestyle of the average teenager is not conducive to fetal development. Teen mothers are more likely to smoke, eat a fast food diet, less likely to have adequate prenatal care, and more
In North Carolina, state legislator requires all 58 community college to offer federal loans by 2011-12, they have the largest share of 57 percent of students without access to loans in the nation. Increased minimum wage for teens without a high school diploma was responsible for over 114,000 fewer employed teens (Even, 2010, p. A15). III. Dependency on the welfare system increases due to the increase demand for more skilled workers. A. Mothers on welfare in states that raised their minimum wage remained on welfare 44 percent longer than mothers on welfare in states where it was not raised (Garfield, 1996).
I am the baby of four girls. My parents separated and divorced before I was a year old. At 10 months old, the odds were stacked against me. Research of Dr. Bravada Garrett-Akinsanya and many other studies have discovered shocking and astonishing finds; “Daughters of single mothers are 53% more likely to marry as teenagers, 111% more likely to have children as teenagers, 164% more likely to have a premarital birth and 92% more likely to dissolve their own marriages.” (Garrett-Akinsanya) I didn’t know it yet, but the likelihood of me becoming a statistic was practically
Forks High School had a frightening total of only three hundred and fifty-seven -- now fifty-eight -- students; there were more than seven hundred people in my junior class alone back home. All of the kids here had grown up together--their grandparents had been toddlers together. I would be the new girl from the big city, a curiosity, a freak. Maybe, if I looked like a girl from Phoenix should, I could work this to my advantage. But physically, I'd never fit in anywhere.
Teen pregnancy- The U.S has the second highest teen birth rate among 46 countries, also 1 out of every 3 girls will get pregnant before they even turn 20 years old.
