Intelligence is one of the most talked about subjects in psychology, there is no standard definition of what exactly inteence is. Some researchers have suggested that intelligence is a single, general ability, others believe that intelligence is a range of aptitudes, skills and talents. British psychologist Charles Spearman was an English psychologist who invented Theory of intelligence or the g factor which is also general intelligance. Though he didnt quite expect to become a famous psychologist for general intelligence is the ability to think about ideas, analyze situations, and solve problems. Charles Spearman was born on September 10, 1863 in the town of London. Spearman first started study philosophy but later decided to stop his research. His loss of interest in philosophy prompted him to join the British army, where he spent almost a quarter of his life. It was during his service in the army when Spearman discovered how important psychology really is. Spearmen newly found interest in psychology, and in mental ability, led him to research intelligence of 24 children.Charles Spearman's model of intelligence is most widely used theories of intelligence. In order to examine these things they first had to understand the human brain and how it works. They had to examine the human study habits and rituals, along with the human test taking habits. His results from the measurements led to the theory of a general intelligence factor, "g" and a specific intelligence factor "s.”Spearman developed the two-factor theory of intelligence showing that all aspects of human intelligence are controlled by "g" Spearman thought that if all mental tests are mutually related then there is some common factor that causes this.
