A manager needs to have certain qualities or characteristic if he or she wants to a lead a team of people successfully. Some of these qualities can be learned through training, other qualities are natural born qualities, they make up a persons’ value system. Both of these sets of qualities are important not only to the organization, but also to the employees. A manager that has vision for the future of the company will be an inspiration to his employees. He or she will be passionate and motivational in sharing that vision. A manager needs to be knowledgeable in the company’s goals in order to see the vision for the company. I believe that this characteristic is value center characteristic. This ads value because it sets the tone for the employees to duplicate, which will make it easier to achieve results. An effective manager needs to know how to communicate this vision to his or her employees. It is great to see the vision however, if the manager does not communicate that, the vision does not matter. This is a knowledge based characteristic. This adds value because everyone will know and understand what is expected of them, which will be easier for the team to obtain their goals. A persistent manager is an effective manager, because they will see a project to the end, overcoming challenges that they face. This is a knowledge centered characteristic. This sort of behavior is contagious and everyone will have the same level of persistency because their manager is not giving up. When a manager utilizes the strengths of their team and allowing them to feel empowered, the team as a whole will accomplish more and the results will be favorable.
