Characteristics of a Good Coach Being a coach is easy, but being a good coach requires much more. Everyone have their thoughts about what characteristics make a good coach. From my point of view, I believe the characteristics of a good coach include being supportive, committed, and human. A good coach is supportive when they encourage you to be the best you can be. They recognize you strengths and help to build upon them as well as recognizing your weaknesses and help to improve them. Not only are they supportive on the court, but also in the classroom. They make sure you are getting your work done and that your grades are improving. If there is a problem with any work, they are there to help solve it. A committed coach spends many hours breaking down film and prepares their team for the next opposing team. They do much research on conditioning to keep you fit, strategies to keep the other team thinking, and techniques to make you better. A good coach is human because they understand that players may have down times. They realize that they are not always right and no one is perfect. In conclusion, the characteristics of a good coach include being supportive, committed, and human. I have the opportunity to play for a coach who meets these characteristics.
