CHARACTER COUNTS: THE GREAT HOPE OF OUR SOCIETY JOSH WARD SIERRA MIDDLE SCHOOL MRS. HALL'S ACC. LANGUAGE ARTS Character Counts is not about the individual. It is based upon the morals and hopes of society and is aimed at the improvement of ourselves as a people and as a country. Character Counts has the ability to create a greater tomorrow by educating children of today. Teaching strong moral values at a young age is important if a society is to succeed. Character Counts does target the youth of the present world but also can be a strong source of self-reliance for the adults and leaders of our world today. As one of the most effective programs of its kind, Character Counts offers great hopes for the future. The six Pillars of Character, Respect, Trustworthiness, Citizenship, Caring, Fairness, and Responsibility. as taught by Character Counts, can help us navigate the most unfamiliar territories of life. Upholding these six simple values will see our country through this millennium, and on to the next. These six traits of honorable character are the fundamentals of a civilized and decent society. Character Counts, and programs like it, are sources of faithful leadership which will be needed in times yet to come. Through the lessons of Character Counts, we learn that our character does in fact count. Our character represents us as people and a nation, and we must achieve and surpass the expectations set before us so that we may truly say our lives made a difference. Even the seemingly least significant gesture of good will can, in some way, improve a person's quality of life. Character Counts strives to reach the goal of a better life for all.
